Marriage in College

The next morning, I woke up with a swollen heart… but not from sadness.Something else.

Maybe… peace?

I got dressed, packed my bag, and went to college expecting the usual boredom.

But the moment I entered the gate…It felt like I entered a movie set.

Lights being fixed on every building corner.Posters being hung upside down by two confused fellows.Girls walking around with giant cardboard flowers.Boys running behind teachers asking for funds like politicians before elections.

It looked like a wedding house but with extra drama.

Pavan came running, laughing."Hey! Looks like the whole college forgot classes exist!"

Apparently…Our college fest was officially announced.

And that meant:No more lectures. No more attendance. Only chaos.

We didn't even ask what the theme was.We just walked around like VIPs no badge, no idea.

We slipped into random clubs music, drama, photography any place where they didn't throw us out immediately.

I remember walking into the drama club again. The senior looked at me and said,"Ay superstar! Back again?"

I saluted and escaped.

Our gang Pavan, Raju, Vinod were walking around aimlessly but with such confidence like we were in charge.

At one point, Sreeja saw a stall being decorated with pink ribbons.

She turned to me and said,"Surya… we should volunteer here. You'd look good wrapping ribbons."

I looked at her like she asked me to dance Kuchipudi.

Raju, silent fellow, finally spoke up:"Let's just help somewhere, or we'll get caught for doing nothing."

Vinod: "I'm helping by spreading smiles."

Pavan: "I'm helping by increasing footfall see this face, people come to see it."

Vicky: "I'm helping by not helping."

I clapped for all of them. Useless squad.

But truth be told…I loved every second of this stupidity.

We found ourselves helping with a cultural event registration desk. Our job? Write down names and pass paper slips.

Raju was serious. Vinod made up fake names like "Spiderman Varma."Sreeja kept correcting him with a death glare.

That evening, we all sat under the tree behind the admin block.Exhausted. Sweaty. Happy.

Pavan threw his bag down. "Bro… I didn't do anything, but I'm tired like I built the whole fest."

I looked up at the sky.

For once, I didn't miss her with pain.

I just wished she could see this version of me.

The one who laughs. Who lives. Who's becoming someone again.

Fest was just a reason.

But my friends? They were the cure.
