8.The Rift That Shouldn’t Exist

The rift in the sky was slowly growing larger. The black light pouring out of it had covered the entire village. The air felt so heavy that breathing seemed difficult.

Kael gripped his sword tightly and stood beside Ryu. His face showed a mix of anger and tension.

"I've never seen a rift this big before."

Ryu gave a faint smile and looked up at the sky.

"Then today's your lucky day."

Kael glared at him angrily. "Will you ever stop joking?"

Ryu just shrugged casually. "Nope, because it's better to keep the mood light before dying."

Just then, A loud roar echoed from the rift, and a terrifying creature fell from the sky. Its form was half-human and half-beast, its body made of black smoke, and its eyes glowed like burning red embers. Its feet touched the ground, but it wasn't walking—it floated in the air.

Kael raised his sword. "I'll go from the left, you from the right. We need to distract it."

Ryu looked at him and smirked slightly. "Wow. Giving me orders now? Fine, sounds fun."

The two of them charged at the creature together, Kael's sword crackled with black lightning, and when it struck the creature arm, there was a loud explosion. The creature roared in anger and swatted Kael away with its massive hand , throwing him far back.

At that moment, Ryu created a golden circle beneath the creature's feet. The ground cracked, and for a brief moment, the creature was pinned down. But it quickly tore through its smoky form and freed itself.

Ryu let out a long breath and smiled. "Stronger than I expected… this is getting fun."

Kael got up from the ground, glaring at him. "Fun? You're a psycho."

Ryu grinned. "Maybe… or maybe this is just my way of curing boredom."

The creature roared and charged at them, black smoke sparking like lightning from its body. Ryu and Kael attacked together Kael's rapid sword strikes and Ryu's magic circles tearing into the creature's smoky form.

Suddenly, a faint sound came from the rift—an unmistakably human voice. A figure fell from the rift.

It was a man—wrapped in a long black cloak, his face half-covered by a mask, and his hair pure white. He landed on his feet effortlessly, as if the fall hadn't hurt him at all. He lifted his head toward Ryu, his eyes glinting strangely.

He spoke softly,

"…So it's you. You really came."

Ryu stopped, his expression turning serious for the first time.

"You… know me?"

The masked man chuckled faintly. "How could I not? You shouldn't even be here… Your very existence shakes this world."

Kael looked at the man in shock. "You two… know each other?"

Ryu didn't glance at Kael, his eyes fixed on the masked man.

"Who are you?"

The man spoke slowly, "Me? I'm just a prophet… counting your sins."

He raised his hand, and the smoke around him shifted violently. The creature they were fighting suddenly glowed brighter, its body surging with even greater power.

Ryu took a deep breath and smiled. "Ah… so you're not the audience, you're the director. Let's see how long your show lasts."

Kael tightened his grip on his sword, anger in his eyes. "Ryu! This isn't an ordinary rift monster. someone controlling it!"

Ryu's eyes glimmered with hidden excitement. "I know. And that makes it even more interesting."

The masked man gave a slight bow. "Then. shall we begin the game?"

The creature body glowed brighter, lightning crackled through the air, and the entire village shook with a terrifying roar.
