10. The Name He Must Never Remember

The rift slowly closed. The black light spread in the air began to fade, and after the creature exploded, peace returned to the village. People were coming out of their houses – some looked at Ryu and Kael with cautious eyes, some had gratitude on their faces, and some still carried fear.

Ryu sat back on the bench as if nothing had happened. His face was completely calm, only a faint trace of exhaustion in his eyes. Kael stood next to him, his face serious and his eyes filled with slight confusion.

"You're really different."

Ryu gave a faint smile, picking up his drink.

"Is that a compliment or a warning?"

Kael just sighed and spoke while standing by the bench,

"I still don't trust you… but without you, we all would have died today."

Ryu swirled his drink lightly, answering with a smile,

"Don't trust me. I don't like people depending on me."

Kael looked at him and said quietly,

"Still… fighting alongside you… felt strange, but not wrong."

Ryu gave him a small smile. "First step of friendship? Just don't touch me, that's good enough."

Kael rolled his eyes. "You're irritating."

Ryu chuckled softly. "I know."

Elira walked toward them slowly. There was a faint smile on her face, but concern lingered in her eyes. Standing in front of Ryu, she spoke,

"Are you… okay? You didn't get hurt, did you?"

Ryu looked at her, his expression softening slightly.

"Hurt? No… just a little bored."

Elira let out a small laugh and sat beside him.

"Bored, even after such a big fight?"

Ryu looked at the sky and smiled faintly.

"Bored until something actually breaks me."

Elira looked at him, her face turning slightly sad.

"Sometimes it feels like… even when you smile, you seem very lonely inside."

Ryu glanced at her for a moment, then smirked lightly.

"You're a herbalist, but your observation is better than a doctor's."

Elira just looked at him quietly and said softly,

"Still… I don't think you're as bad as people think you are."

Ryu gave her a small genuine smile – perhaps the first time anyone had ever seen it.

Kael looked at the two of them and spoke quietly, "I'm leaving tomorrow morning. You can come along if you want."

Ryu looked at him and simply shrugged.

"We'll see… maybe your boring journey will have some fun."

Kael just nodded and walked away.

Elira stayed there, looking at Ryu as she asked softly,

"How long will you stay here?"

Ryu looked at her and gave a faint chuckle.

"As long as the game stays interesting."

Elira just stared at him quietly for a moment before slowly standing up. As she walked away, she turned back once – Ryu was still sitting on the bench, his eyes on the sky, his face calm, but his eyes held a hidden depth only a few could ever notice.

The masked man stood in a dark room. In front of him was another person – his face hidden, only his body glowing faintly with small ancient symbols.

The masked man spoke softly,

"He hasn't remembered his true name… but he's fighting just like he used to in the past."

The other man replied in a low voice,

"Good… Ryujin must not remember. Not yet. When he does… the game will end."

The masked man chuckled quietly,

"Until then… we'll make him remember, whether he wants to or not."

The darkness grew deeper, and the room sank into an eerie silence.
