Dream come true

Chapter 27: Dream come true

We rode the horse for hours. When the sky began to darken, we finally settled down to rest. The army set up the tents, and the fire was lit. As I sat staring into the flames, a strange feeling settled over me. I had always dreamed of going to war, of standing tall on a battlefield and now here I was, fighting alongside my enemies.

How my world has changed.

So many secrets…

So many mysteries unfolding all at once.

I don't even know what to feel anymore.

I picked up a stick and stirred the fire, enjoying the warmth on my skin.

"Hello, troublemaker."

I looked up. Prince Damiar was walking toward me, his eyes catching the glow of the fire. He sat beside me without asking.

"What's the plan for the war?" I asked, trying not to stare at how perfect he looked. There was something almost unreal about him in the firelight. I felt something stir inside me something unfamiliar. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach, and my heartbeat quickened.

"The plan is to kill, Princess," he said softly, his gaze fixed on the fire.

I blinked twice.

"I mean… the plan to achieve victory in this war," I quickly corrected, trying to mask my awkwardness. "I've heard a lot about their kingdom. We can't just barge in. We'll need a map or some kind of secret passage."

Prince Damiar gave a thoughtful nod, his eyes reflecting the firelight.

"Hmm… Princess, you're quite good yourself."

He turned toward me again. His gaze locked with mine it was intense, deep, like he could read into my soul.

"Have you been to battlefields before?" he asked, eyes narrowing slightly with curiosity.

"No, I haven't," I said. "But my general taught me everything I know."

He chuckled softly.

"Really? So you're a pretty face and a warrior?" he said with a teasing smile. It made something in me flutter.

"I always wanted to be a knight," I replied, my voice quieter. "But my people refused me the chance." I looked down at the ground, remembering all the times I had begged to join the training and had been denied—just because I was a girl, a princess.

"Why do you want to be a knight," he asked, "when you can be a beautiful wife?"

I looked up sharply.

"Because I don't want to belong to someone. I want to belong to something. A cause. A purpose. Something that matters beyond just marriage."

He smiled again but this time, it wasn't teasing. It was something softer. Admiration, maybe.

"You never stop amazing me, Ravena."

The way he said my name it sounded different in his voice, like something sacred.

"If you can fight without getting hurt on the battlefield," he said, standing slowly, "then you can join the army."

I looked up at him, my heart skipping.

"Really? You mean it?"

"Of course, Princess."

He smirked slightly. "But we'll see if you can keep up."

He turned and walked away, his dark cape trailing slightly in the wind. I couldn't help but smile as I watched him disappear into the shadows of the camp.

My dream... it might really come true.

I stood and made my way to my tent, the fire's warmth still lingering on my skin, but something warmer glowed inside me now hope.
