Chapter 19

Heading to the Police Station and Reporting to Detective

After they wrapped up their business discussion, they changed the subject to Sarah. Richard turned to look at Sarah, who was sitting next to him.

"Sarah, I'm going to transfer you to a different university. I don't want you to go through anything like that ever again," Richard said.

"But where would I go, Dad? To another state?" Sarah asked.

"Sorry, but there's a pretty big university near my place. Sarah could go there, how about that?" Samantha chimed in.

Richard and Sarah both looked at Samantha. Samantha then pulled out her phone and showed Richard the university's profile. After reading it, Richard nodded, then turned back to Sarah.

"What do you think, Sarah?" Richard asked.

"I want to, Dad," Sarah replied.

"Alright, I'll take care of it. And there's a housing development nearby called Willow Village; I'll buy you a house there," Richard added.

"No need, Uncle. Sarah can just stay with me. I happen to live in that same development," Samantha offered.

"Oh... really?" Richard asked.

"B-but, is that okay, sis?" Sarah asked, surprised.

"It's fine. You saw my house, right? It's huge, and I'm all alone. I mean, my sister and her daughter are moving in with me next week too, but even with just the three of us, it'll still be way too big," Samantha explained.

"I-I see," Sarah said, looking down but clearly happy about it.

"Do you want to, Sarah?" Richard asked.

"Y-yes, Dad," Sarah replied shyly.

"Okay, Uncle, we should get going now. Sarah and I want to go to the police station to report what happened to Sarah," Samantha said.

"Oh... but won't your family be affected? It all involves Derek, doesn't it?" Richard asked.

"It's no problem, Uncle," Samantha assured him.

"Alright, I'll leave Sarah in your hands, Samantha. Please take care of her," Richard said.

"I will, Uncle. Thank you for trusting me," Samantha replied.

After that, Samantha and Sarah said their goodbyes to Richard. They left Richard's office and walked towards the elevator. Once inside the elevator, Sarah turned to look at Samantha, who seemed pretty relaxed. Samantha looked back at Sarah.

"What's up now?" Samantha asked.

"Um... thanks, sis, but why did you end up partnering with Dad on a business deal?" Sarah asked.

"If I just said I wanted to donate the money, wouldn't that have hurt his pride?" Samantha asked.

"Oh... that's true," Sarah replied.

"Yeah, especially since the person making the donation is the daughter of the company owner he put his company's credit with. I would've been seen as insulting him, and you might have been disowned for bringing me to him," Samantha explained.

"You really thought this through beforehand, sis?" Sarah asked.

"Hmm... let's just say that (I used to do things like this a lot when I helped manage Grandma's business, but with the added skill from Hades, it's even better now)," Samantha replied.

After the elevator opened, Samantha and Sarah went straight to their car in the basement. They then headed directly to the police station, carrying the USB with the evidence Hades had documented. After a 10-minute drive, they arrived at the police station. They went inside to speak with the police officer at the reception desk. Soon after, a middle-aged detective came out to meet them and led them into a room to talk.

"Alright, let me introduce myself again. I'm Detective Adam Garcia. Please tell me everything," Adam said, preparing his notepad and pen.

After the introduction, Sarah immediately told Adam everything. He kept writing without interrupting at all, listening carefully to her entire story. When Sarah mentioned the name of the professor who blackmailed her, Adam's eyebrows furrowed as if he'd heard that name before. Once Sarah finished telling him everything,

"Hmm, the professor's name you mentioned sounds familiar. Several people have reported similar incidents to yours, but because we don't have concrete evidence, either physical or on social media, our investigation gets stuck because many victims don't want to give statements, either out of embarrassment or just wanting to move on with their lives without looking back," Adam said.

"In that case, here, sir," Sarah said, handing her USB drive to Adam.

Seeing the USB drive in front of him, Adam immediately stood up and opened the door. He asked the officer guarding the room to get his laptop. Soon after, the officer came back with his laptop. Adam immediately turned it on and inserted the USB drive. As he opened the files, Adam's eyes widened more and more, and a faint smile appeared on his lips.

"This... this is incredibly thorough documentation. With this, we can investigate further with the university so they can conduct a deeper internal investigation and issue an arrest warrant for the suspect," Adam said.

"Good, please do that, sir. Also, report him to the licensing board regarding his teaching license and the education board regarding his credibility as a lecturer who violated ethics," Samantha added.

"Okay, I'll follow up on this case. We'll let you know about the investigation results and the suspect's arrest as soon as possible," Adam replied.

After finishing up the professor's case, they started discussing the five scammers who almost tricked Sarah last night. After reading the documentation,

"Hmm... from all this documentation, it's clear they committed fraud, conspiracy, embezzlement within their company, and theft of personal data. Alright... we'll investigate these five people too," Adam said.

"Good, I'll leave it all to you, sir," Samantha replied.

While Samantha was talking to Adam, "drrrrrt," Sarah's phone kept vibrating. Sarah turned it off and put it away, but the phone vibrated again, and Sarah turned it off again. Samantha, seeing Sarah getting more and more restless next to her, took Sarah's phone. She saw 20 missed calls from Derek within half an hour and five messages. Samantha opened the messages and smiled. The messages expressed Derek's confusion about Sarah not coming home to his apartment and asking where Sarah was, but the last message, which had just arrived five minutes earlier, really satisfied Samantha.

"Sarah, why did my dad say your dad's company paid off their mortgage ? What happened? Where are you? I'm still at your apartment. Come home quickly, we need to talk, please answer," Derek's last message read.

Samantha returned the phone to Sarah, who was looking at her, while Adam was still examining the files on the USB drive.

"After this, we're going to your apartment, okay?" Samantha said with a smile.

"But... Derek's there," Sarah said.

"That's exactly the point. Let's go meet Derek and settle all your business with him," Samantha said, smiling.
