Stolen Youth:Kasi Secrets Don’t Stay Buried

📖 Chapter 15 – The Ones Who Vanish Don't Stay Gone

The Kasi felt colder that morning.

The air was still, too still. Like something was holding its breath.

Even the dogs didn't bark.

Boitumelo sat at the spaza, hoodie over her head, eyes scanning every shadow. Neo sat beside her, tapping his knee anxiously.

Kea arrived with a brown envelope under her arm.

"Footage is printed. Copies hidden," she said.

Neo grabbed the envelope and nodded. "Once this goes to the right hands, they can't silence us."

Boitumelo didn't smile.

"They'll try anyway."

---

They headed to the house of Mme Nandi, a former teacher who used to fight against corruption during the taxi wars. She lived like a ghost now — only those who knew the truth ever found her.

Mme Nandi opened the door before they could knock.

"I knew you'd come. The air's been strange," she whispered.

She didn't speak much — just opened her hand.

Boitumelo handed her the envelope. Kea passed her a USB.

Mme Nandi looked at them. "Be careful. The ones who vanish… they don't stay gone."

"What do you mean?" Neo asked.

"They come back — not as themselves. Changed. Afraid. Controlled."

Boitumelo froze. "Like Palesa?"

Mme Nandi nodded once. "Yes. But worse. Some of them become the ones who take."

---

Later that night, Neo sat outside with a small fire burning in a bucket. Boitumelo joined him.

"Did we do the right thing?" he asked.

She didn't answer at first.

Then she said, "We've only just begun. The right thing... comes with fear. And fire."

Neo looked at her. "Then let it burn."

---

Boitumelo went home to find a white envelope on her pillow.

No name.

Inside: a photo.

Her. Neo. Kea. Taken that day outside Mme Nandi's house.

A single message written on the back:

> "Keep digging, and you'll be next."

Boitumelo didn't panic. She just picked up her phone, opened a new group chat with Neo and Kea, and typed:

> "They made the mistake of warning us."

"Now we dig deeper."

---

They thought the youth would stay quiet.

They thought Kasi kids wouldn't fight back.

But now…

The real war was just beginning.
