Chapter 1: When It All Began

Narrated by: Yui Asahina (結衣 朝比奈)

---

> "If I had never looked at him that day... maybe none of this would have happened. But I did. And I smiled like an idiot, while everything changed behind my back."

---

[Scene: College Courtyard – Spring Morning]

Wind blew softly, carrying the petals of cherry blossoms like quiet confessions through the air.

I remember the sunlight that day.

It wasn't warm. It wasn't cold. It just... existed. Like him.

I, Yui Asahina, 19, second-year college student, was, once again, running late.

And for some stupid reason, I stopped to tie my shoelaces near the east stairway instead of rushing in.

That's where I saw him for the first time.

---

He wasn't posing, or glowing like in manga.

He was just… there.

Back leaned against the pillar, head tilted, earphones in, staring at the sky like he was searching for something far away.

That was the first time I saw Haruki shinohara.

"Hey," he said, suddenly.

I flinched. "H-Huh?"

He held out the pen I had just dropped.

"You dropped this. You should stop spacing out while running. Your legs are short already."

"E-Excuse me!?" I shouted, face burning.

He just smirked — that half-annoying, half-addictive smirk.

That was the first thing he said to me.

And yes... I fell. Just a little.

---

[Scene Transition: Rooftop – Lunch Break]

"Yui! You saw him again, didn't you!?"

That was Mio Hoshizora, my best friend and personal chaos generator.

"I-I did not!"

"Yes, you did! Don't lie to the stars, girl!"

"I wasn't looking at him!"

"Oh really? Then why did you draw a heart around his name in your notes?"

"THAT WAS ACCIDENTAL DOODLING!"

Haruki was across the rooftop, headphones in, eyes closed, probably not even aware that three girls in our class had declared him 'unapproachably hot'.

And then there was Ren Kurose.

Haruki's best friend. Sitting near the corner, quietly sketching something in his notebook — probably the clouds, or… me, maybe? I don't know.

Ren always smiled at me like he knew things I didn't.

Sometimes... that made my stomach feel weird.

---

[Flash Scene: Classroom]

Sensei: "shinohara, care to answer the equation on the board?"

Haruki (yawning): "No, but if I must…"

Class laughs.

Mio: "Gosh, I hate how effortlessly smart he is."

Me: Yeah… I hate it too. And I like it too. This is dumb.

---

[Scene: Walking Home – Sunset]

Ren walked with me and Mio that day.

Mio was busy texting her junior club girls.

Ren was unusually quiet.

"Ren," I asked, breaking the silence. "Do you believe in... first sights?"

He looked at me gently. "I believe in second chances more."

I laughed it off, but my heart skipped a beat.

---

> That spring… it all began.

From rooftop lunches to secret stares.

From innocent teasing to heavy silences.

From just classmates… to something else.

What I didn't know was —

All of us were falling.

At different times.

In different directions.

---

[Final Scene: Yui's Inner Monologue – At Night, in her Room]

I like him. That's obvious now.

But he barely knows me. And maybe that's for the best.

Because… if he turns around and smiles at me like that again…

I might fall completely.
