"Can anyone explain? What is going on here?" Aarav questioned in his mind, still trying to grasp the weight of the strange, dreamlike turn his afterlife had taken. Just hours ago, he had been with his new wife—the enigmatic and beautiful Spider Queen—experiencing emotions he'd never thought he would feel again. And now, he was standing in the middle of a battlefield that had just quieted from a chaotic clash.
The ground was littered with broken weapons and ash-like traces of vanished monsters. Soul warriors, young and old, stood in small groups, catching their breath, murmuring amongst themselves. Slowly, the crowd was calming down, the urgency fading from the air like smoke after a fire.
The captains who had fought the creature with inhuman power were gone, along with the Grand Master. No farewell, no explanation.
"Should I go back?" Aarav thought. "The Spider Queen is probably waiting for me. Right?"
He considered the option, but a sudden announcement echoed through the field, breaking his thoughts:
[ ALL STUDENTS ARE HEREBY REQUESTED TO GO BACK TO THEIR OWN CLASSROOMS. NEW STUDENTS ARE REQUESTED TO GO BACK TO THEIR TEST FIELD. ]
Aarav blinked, unsure if the message applied to him. Was he a student? He didn't recall signing up for any class. He certainly didn't feel like a student—he was a grown man, a soul reborn in a place filled with mystical towers and skill windows. School seemed like a strange concept here.
Still, as he looked around, the crowd had already begun to divide. He noticed one group of souls walking confidently toward a large arched doorway. They all wore pristine white suits embroidered with a silver emblem over their chest—a mark of status, perhaps.
Another group, looking younger and wearing simple clothing, made their way through a separate entrance. These souls looked more curious than confident. Their eyes wandered, some whispered nervously, some clung to friends.
"They must be the new students," Aarav muttered, following the second group.
He walked with the crowd, making sure to blend in. A few souls glanced at him, his silk robe standing out among the plain garbs, but no one questioned him. A few minutes later, they emerged from the colossal structure into the open.
Aarav turned to look at the building they had just exited. For the first time, he saw it in full. It wasn't just one building—it was a cluster of four, each one tall and majestic, painted in deep shades of blue. They were interconnected with elevated walkways and floating platforms, almost like bridges made of light.
It was awe-inspiring.
Yet his attention was quickly drawn away by the massive crimson tower ahead. It loomed like a mountain, taller than any of the blue buildings behind them. The tower shimmered with a soft red glow, as if it were alive and watching.
Before the tower, instructors clad in blue suits stood in formation. They watched the group approach.
One instructor, tall and stern-faced, raised his voice to address them:
"Students! Now all of you will go into the tower. Remember, the tower is very dangerous. Many souls never return from there. So before you go in, you will be given a chance to choose a weapon of your choice. Choose wisely, and may your soul survive."
The students looked at each other nervously. Some whispered among themselves. One brave student raised his hand and spoke:
"Teacher! Can we choose more than one weapon?"
The instructor turned to him and replied in a calm yet firm tone, "You can. But doing so will weaken you more than strengthen you. Weapons in the Soul Tower are soul-bound. They amplify your spirit, but if your soul isn't strong enough to wield them all, they will instead drain you. Choose at your own risk."
Another instructor stepped forward. His voice was more encouraging:
"Now go and choose your weapon. One by one. Don't rush."
The students began lining up, forming orderly rows as they waited their turn. A path opened to a long hall filled with floating pedestals. Each pedestal held a different weapon. Some glowed, some hummed, some even whispered.
Aarav remained at the back for now. He wasn't in a hurry. His eyes turned toward the tower again. There was something ancient and mystical about it—the way it pulsed, the way its surface shimmered. It looked less like stone and more like crystallized blood.
"So this is the tower," he whispered to himself. "The so-called SOUL TOWER."
And the Soul Tower... was waiting.
"How ironic. i am going for the second time. i wonder what my wife is doing right now? is she free right now?"
