> 3:12 a.m.
Ji-Han wasn't sleeping.
Lying on his back, he stared at the ceiling. He was too hot, too thirsty. It felt like his skin was sweating from the inside out.
The sheet clung to him. His throat was dry.
Next to him, Jae-In was fast asleep. Or pretending to be.
Ji-Han got up. Naked.
He walked through the apartment to the bathroom. The faucet ran.
He leaned over, drinking straight from the stream.
When he looked up, the mirror was black.
No reflection. Not even a blur. Just… black.
He stepped back, his breath caught.
— Fuck…
— You got up without me?
The voice came from the living room.
He turned. Jae-In was there, in the shadows, sitting on the couch, legs crossed, a cigarette between his fingers.
— How did you…? I left you in bed, Ji-Han whispered.
— You never left me. I'm always here.
Ji-Han frowned. He stepped closer, slowly.
— This doesn't make sense.
— Nothing does when you sleep too much.
Ji-Han froze.
— Am I dreaming?
Jae-In stood up, walked over, and locked eyes with him. They were darker than usual. Deep. Unfathomable.
— You really think you could dream me like this?... this well?...
— I… don't know…
— I do.
He slid his hand behind Ji-Han's neck and kissed him hard.
The tension returned. Instantly.
Jae-In shoved him against the wall. His hand closed around Ji-Han's throat, just enough to shut out the world.
— You like it when I take you like this?
Ji-Han gasped, nodded, unable to answer otherwise.
— Say you're mine.
— Jae-In…
— Say it.
— I'm yours.
He smiled. Loosened the grip a little. His lips slid down to his neck.
— See… as long as you stay here, nothing can hurt you.
Ji-Han felt himself harden against him. It was too much. Insane. Perfect.
And it was in that suffocating perfection that a thought struck him.
> What if I wasn't here at all?
He pushed Jae-In away suddenly, panting.
— Stop. Wait. I need…
— Need what? Air? A break? Or to remember?
Ji-Han backed away again.
— You're not real.
Jae-In laughed.
— And yet I made you come three times tonight.
Silence.
Then Ji-Han said, eyes glistening:
— That's exactly the problem.
