Chapter 6

My first encounter with Liam was when I was merely a fledgling designer.

He was a client for a project I was providing consultation on, and he made it a point to visit and sit in my office every day, without exception. This was the process through which we became acquainted. Our story began after he offered me a ride home during a torrential downpour.

Our beginning was exceptionally sweet and imbued with romance, but its conclusion was the stuff of nightmares.

No third party ever came between us, attempting to drive us apart, nor did he have a past love who made a sudden return. The relationship ended for the sole reason that he valued his father's "business associate" more than me—a valuation so high it eclipsed the life of his own unborn child.

That was the singular, insurmountable obstacle between us.
