Chapter 20: Nobility

Lavell suddenly let go of the middle-aged man and stormed off in a huff.

But just a few steps away, he came face to face with a familiar figure, causing him to let out a startled squeal.

"Want a ride?" Glen asked with a smile.

Lavell snarled, "Get lost, you bastard..."

"It seems you were dealt a light blow."

Lavell immediately shut up.

He glared at Glen before cautiously running away, keeping a wary distance.

"Hey! Outsiders aren't allowed here," the middle-aged man inside shouted.

"I understand," Glen replied, then walked away at a leisurely pace.

...

After buying a few sets of well-fitting clothes and some tools like hammers and nails at a clothing store in town, Glen pulled the packages back home in a cart.

They set off as the sun was setting and returned very late. A few swift shadows in Beyek Town quickly darted into corners when they noticed Glen.

Glen merely glanced at them curiously before ignoring them. He brought the items from the cart into the house and then walked towards the forest outside the town with a kerosene lamp.

He wanted to check on the prey he had caught in the morning.

The dim yellow light swayed as he walked, and the rusty lamp frame creaked. Glen's shadow stretched long on the quiet street.

In fact, he could see in the dark without the lamp, but the light made him feel more comfortable.

The beast sleeping by the trap suddenly perked up, then lifted its head, sniffing the air. It quickly recognized who was coming.

It excitedly sat up, heading towards the approaching light.

"Alright, tell me if anything happened while I was away," Glen said, pushing the beast's fluffy head aside.

The beast whimpered, meaning nothing had happened.

Glen nodded, then walked lightly to the trap and brought the light closer.

The black pigs and the deer, still panicked when caught, were all sleeping soundly.

Sleep well. My future livelihood depends on you now... Glen smiled contentedly, instructing the beast, "Keep watching, and come find me the moment something beyond your control happens."

The beast immediately raised its head to show understanding.

Glen patted its neck, then took the lamp and walked back the same way.

...

The Lavell family lived in an estate near the town of Dodd. When the young master returned, the servants were stunned.

"My God! Who did this to the young master? It's terrible!"

"Quick, tell the lady! This is a big deal!"

Lavell had been crying all the way from school, and now he was bawling even louder, ignoring the servants. His wailing was almost heard throughout the entire estate.

In a courtyard of the estate, three elegantly dressed and sophisticated ladies were chatting merrily, ignoring the sharp tone in their voices.

But this harmonious scene was quickly shattered by Lavell's pig-like wailing.

"Heavens! Who is this? Crying so dreadfully, it's really unbecoming!" Lady Sophia's eyebrows shot up, then her face changed, "It's my Lavell!"

Ignoring her two friends' questions, she hurriedly got up, lifted her skirt, and rushed towards the source of the sound.

As she turned a corner, Sophia saw her son, looking disheveled and supported by several servants. She called out in alarm and rushed forward to check on him.

Lavell's left cheek was swollen, red with a hint of purple, with bloodstains around his mouth and nose, and tear marks. Sophia was heartbroken, her voice trembling.

"My darling, tell me what happened? How did this happen?"

Lavell shouted, "It was a commoner! He ran into the school and hit me! He also hit my entourage!"

"What! A commoner!?" Sophia's voice was sharp, her anger overwhelming her, "This audacious commoner must be hanged! I swear by the honor of the DeRachella family!"

She said to a maid beside her, "How much longer until the master returns?"

"He... should be on his way back, my lady," the maid replied nervously.

"Go and urge him! Tell him the young master is in trouble!"

"Yes, my lady."

...

"Baron Berlin is leaving tomorrow, why doesn't he see me?" Lord Chanis, dressed in noble attire, said softly in a carriage.

"Master, Baron Berlin might have his own difficulties. He doesn't want a rift between you two," the middle-aged gentleman, dressed as a butler, said gently.

"You mean he knows why I'm looking for him, so he's avoiding me?" Chanis asked in confusion.

"I think... yes," the butler said hesitantly.

The conversation was interrupted as the carriage suddenly stopped.

"What's going on?" Chanis frowned, clearly displeased.

"Master! The young master is in trouble! The lady asked me to urge you back urgently!"

A panicked voice entered the carriage, causing Chanis' face to change. He said urgently, "To the estate! Drive faster, Sel!"

"Yes, master," the butler replied, immediately urging the carriage to speed up.

Half an hour later.

With a neigh from the horse, the carriage quickly arrived at the estate. Chanis hurriedly got out of the carriage.

"Where's Lavell?" he asked, leaning on his cane.

"He's in the living room, master," a maid replied.

When Chanis saw his wife and son in the living room, he asked, "What happened?"

"Can't you see with your own eyes?" Sophia pointed at Lavell's face.

Chanis finally noticed his son's condition, threw his cane, and said angrily, "Who did this?!"

"It was a commoner named Glen. We must catch him and hang him!" Sophia said viciously.

"Father, I'm in pain..." Lavell whimpered pitifully.

"Barber!" Chanis shouted.

"I'm here," a knight-like warrior in armor stepped forward.

"You go..." Chanis hesitated, then turned to his son, "Where is this commoner, Glen?"

"He said he lives in Beyek Town," Lavell sobbed.

"Right, go to Beyek Town and bring him back!"

"Understood."

Barber took a few steps, then heard Chanis' voice raise a few notches, calling him back.

"Wait!"

Barber turned around in confusion.

"Lavell, you said this commoner lives in Beyek Town?" Chanis asked his son again.

Lavell nodded, confirming it.

This answer made Chanis hesitate.

"What's wrong, Chanis? What's there to hesitate about? He's just a commoner! Are you going to stand by and let our son be bullied?" Sophia asked, dissatisfied.

"Shut up!" Chanis suddenly roared.
