Chapter 10: What Happened

Since it had been too long since she saw him, Lillian was also new to receiving something like this.

Was he acting for his cohorts?

Perhaps, he was. After all, why else would he be acting so affectionately with her when they just met for the first time after three years?

Lillian pushed it to the back of her mind in the meantime and focus on what they needed to deal with now.

They needed to talk about the most pressing circumstances first.

And if he was indeed acting, she needed to match him, so his cohorts would not be suspicious about their relationship. It was part of their deal to ensure their agreement was not revealed.

"So what's going on? I wasn't aware of anything. What was with the plane crash?" Lillian said as her tears finally stopped.

"I'm sorry. I couldn't reach your phone. We tried to track it but couldn't. It was never switched on. You're neither in your address either and you have never been to any of your offices for the past three days," Leo explained, and Lillian looked away guiltily.

She realized she had unintentionally delayed them from contacting or finding her.

Lillian had shut down all her gadgets since she heard the news. She had contacted her workplace that she would be on travel and said that she may not be around for some time. So even if they went to ask there, they still would not know where she went.

"We were able to locate you just a few hours ago when you called me and sent me a message. We tracked it and headed here immediately," Leo explained.

"I didn't believe what happened was an accident, so I tried to hide," Lillian said, and Leo's cohorts nodded in approval.

She was right indeed. It was indeed an assassination attempt.

Leo smiled, nodded, and sat down on the couch closest to the bed without asking if he could, so Lillian sat down as well.

As if he already owned this place, he also gestured on his men to sit on the couch opposite them. Someone still stood guard by the door and another one by the window.

The others also looked around the room as if checking for any camera and security holes.

"Why are you in this room though? This whole floor was booked under the owner's name."

Leo asked her such a question with subtle hint of something, as if he had just caught her cheating, and it almost made her laugh.

Lillian could feel the gaze of the other people in the room, but she pretended not to notice.

'Did all of them think I was cheating while my husband was missing or had possibly just died? I wasn't that heartless!'

If she ever cheated, Lillian would have done it in those two years they never talked. But she was not one who cheats. She had remained loyal to their marriage even if Leo had ghosted her.

While they were talking, someone went and checked the bathroom without asking her. Thank god it was clean and she had left no underwear there. Her husband seriously needed to learn not to let his people just snoop into a bathroom she had used.

Yet, Leo just said it was a necessity for safety reasons when she complained. They could have asked for permission first though.

But since she figured that aside for security reasons, they were also suspicious of her activities, she let his people confirm that she was alone in this room before they came in.

However...

"Stop!" Lillian rose when one went to open the huge wardrobe where her clothes were.

Everyone was suddenly on alert and one checked under the bed in case someone was hiding there.

Lillian took a deep breath before glaring at her husband and exclaimed, "Are you just going to let another man see my sleepwear and choice of underwear?!"

"Right! I'll check that myself," Leo quickly said, eyes opening wide in realization.

Lillian sighed in relief. It was rather embarrassing and awkward to simply let her husband's cohort's see her underwear hanged in the wardrobe.

"But, your safety," his guard reminded.

"Do you want to see my wife's sleepwear and underwear that much? You should be worried more about your safety," Leo said with a terrifying glare, and the other man backed off.

Her husband carefully opened the wardrobe so only he could see what was inside. He moved aside the clothes to confirm that nobody was hiding inside it nor were there any cameras or recording device.

"Safe," Leo finally said, and the others relaxed.

Meanwhile, he gave her a weird look. Perhaps, due to her choices of sleepwear and underwear. For comfort, she honestly almost always slept naked or wore thin, almost transparent light dresses.

"As if I wouldn't notice if someone came inside my room. I can't believe you're actually suspecting me of cheating," Lillian grumbled when her husband was finally sitting beside her again.

"Weren't you? Were you not preparing those for your paramour?" Leo threw a glance at the wardrobe.

"Stupid," Lillian said, and her husband and all his cohorts were surprised. She covered her mouth.

Of course, they were not used to her respectable and powerful husband being called stupid. This was also the first time she said this word to him.

It just came out of her mouth. Probably because of how absurd this situation was.

"I have been sleepless these past three days, worrying whether my husband is dead or alive. Now that I finally see him, he thinks I'm cheating. What a jerk! I guess, I wasted my energy," Lillian grumbled and Leo's head dipped a bit in guilt as he listened to her.

"None of those were even sexy. Why would I use it for something like that?" Lillian sighed in exasperation.

"Oh," her husband looked at her eyes with anticipation. He clearly thought that the underwear and sleepwear there, were sexy.

If those weren't sexy for her, Leo clearly thought it meant he had something to look forward to, and it was evident as a playful smirk crossed his face.

"Right," Leo said, as if he had seen her in sexier underwear.

Lillian just rolled her eyes in response.
