Prologue

I was born a commoner, nameless in the eyes of nobility yet I rose through the ranks with only my sword, my sweat, and an unbreakable will. In a kingdom ruled by bloodlines and honor, I should have remained in the dirt. But someone saw me.

Khalid Caelum.

‎A noble, a knight of radiant beauty and cold eyes heir to a prestigious house. But unlike the others, he never treated me as lesser. From squires to knights, we trained together, bled together, and fought side by side on countless battlefields.

‎He was older, stronger, sharper. But I was the one who protected his back.

‎He was my brother-in-arms. My closest friend. Maybe... more than that.

‎Though I never dared speak of the feelings that stirred in the quiet moments between battles when our eyes lingered too long, when his hand brushed mine as he passed me a sword, when he smiled in ways he didn't show anyone else I held them in my heart like a secret oath.

‎We fought together in the war against the Kingdom of Winterbell, a land of snow and thorns, ruled by a mysterious royal bloodline. That day, on the battlefield blazing with fire and steel, we stood side by side again, blades flashing in rhythm.

‎And then everything shattered.

‎As I turned to strike down an enemy, I felt a sharp pain tear through my back. Cold steel plunged through my chest.

‎I turned.

‎Khalid.

‎His sword in my chest. His eyes… smiling. Cold. Cruel. Unrecognizable.

‎I stumbled back, coughing blood, betrayal heavier than any wound.

‎"I trusted you…" I rasped.

‎He leaned in and whispered with a smirk, "You were always too loyal."

‎Then, darkness.

‎---

‎I thought I had died.

‎But when I opened my eyes again, I was in another body one wrapped in silk sheets and sunlight, surrounded by guards who bowed and called me by a name that wasn't mine.

Crown Prince Flynn Winterbell.

‎The enemy.

‎The very kingdom we'd fought against for years.

‎I didn't know how or why I was reborn. All I knew was this body wasn't mine… and the face in the mirror was one I had once sworn to destroy.

‎Then I saw him again.

‎Khalid Caelum.

‎Alive.

‎And not just alive he was now a duke of Winterbell, respected, powerful… adored. He had betrayed our kingdom, and somehow found his place in the heart of the enemy's court.

‎And when our eyes met again, in a royal gathering of blades and lies he smiled at me.

‎As if he knew.

‎As if he remembered.

‎Now…

‎I must navigate the treacherous world of Winterbell as its crown prince, hiding the truth of who I once was, and unraveling the reason for Khalid's betrayal. But the deeper I dig, the more twisted the truth becomes. And the closer I get to Khalid, the harder it becomes to deny the heat still buried in my chest.

‎Was it all a lie?

‎Or was the betrayal… the only way to protect me?

‎In this second life, I will uncover the truth.

‎Even if my heart is the price I pay.
