Luna's Town, Inquisitor's office
"So, you're saying that the lunar priest just stood there for over an hour, completely still and you didn't move him or attempt to get any help whatsoever?" The head inquisitor asked
"To a lunar priest? That would be sacrilegious! What if was a divine revelation? Plus I didn't get help because leaving him up there alone would a bad idea, what if he falled asleep and fell backwards?" Cyprus pleaded
"Cyprus! Those rules on sacrilege are for civilians, not inquisitors! We are the hand of god. That's why I petitioned specific re-training to ward against these kind of situations, but the higher council of the inquisition denied me.
Plus you didn't leave him alone and he still died, what's your excuse for that!" Cecilius reprimanded
"I-" Cyprus was cut off
"It doesn't matter. What matters is that you're a fucking idiot. You let him stand there until the automatically timed church bell hit him in the head and he fell 80 feet to his death! Common sense, Cyprus!" Cecilius sighed
"I'm assigning you a partner to make sure your decisions possess sounder logic." He stated
"Come in Jeane."
A brown-hair and eyed woman then appeared from the left side black door.
Luna's Town, unmarked cell
"Return where you came from then, back to ashes." I said while sighing
That should work out, they'll have to send another lunar priest here soon. One which doesn't know me personally.
That sorcery really was a exhausting one. Uncontrolled sorcerers are generally feared. It's because they're horrifying. The core reason on why they're so scary is roughly derived from the sorcery I used. Aether comes from people, it can be controlled while it's still in the form of a person.
This is how a vast majority of curses work.
Inject your aether into their aether and cause it to go haywire through imbalances you created.
It's quite a precise and complex art, too little aether and you get no effect. To much aether and it's straight up an attack, losing all element of surprise.
Although it's not always imbalances you trigger, sometimes it can be described as causing an erratic fluctuation or a phase shift of misalignment.
All in all, not the easiest form of sorcery to perform. Especially when you do what I did.
Target carrier designations.
This is the most complicated form of sorcery that book has taught me.
Perform a willful aether alteration (referred by illiterates as a curse) and have it not affect the target but the next suitable target the carrier of the alteration comes into contact with. Of course with the carrier never knowing they were the carrier before the target is infected.
This last part is super important. With curses it is imperative that the target never notices and identifies the curse. It is ridiculously easy to break inactive curses. To the point where the book explained that a beginner-level sorcerer has an extremely slim chance to break an inactive curse put on him by a god-level sorcerer if he notices in time.
"Oh? It seems that my book has found a holder." I said darkly
Luna's Town, Near the Lengard family estate
Julian had many thoughts coming across the undefinable book, the most pressing one, should he open it?
Will I die if I do so?
Eventually, in the ditch he found the book in, he decided.
Lifting up the indiscernible cover the pages filled with overlapping stars opened up to him. The constellations forming the words, he could see intangible strings of light condense into more information around him, it was truly a miracle, a wonder only bequeathed in minds.
He closed the book, effectively storing the runaway information.
Julien then decided to study the book at home, since he was too scared of someone else taking such a divine item.
He of course wasn't gonna walk straight through the door with such an eye-catching artifact, he opted to throw it through his open window instead.
His house wasn't particularly big, his family had land in quite an expensive place, a beautiful yet secluded one.
Beautiful was relative, but on this dusty wasteland of a place, it was a relatively good-looking area.
With one foot on a rock, attempted to throw the slim yet thick book through the open window.
The trajectory was off.
He threw it and as it was in the air, he knew that he missed.
Yet his expectations were subverted when the book stopped its momentum mid-air and levitated through the open window.
Julien was astonished by this and rushed upstairs to his room, briefly saying hello to his mother.
Upon his bed the book laid open its pages fluttering in the non-existent wind, projections of various slowly moving symbols and incantations lining the walls.
The fluttering stopped and the movement of the projections followed. The contents of the book and walls faded as a new symbol was revealed on the book and projected midair.
It was a collection of multi-colored smaller stars encircling a giant four-tipped star with a small cross blacker and deeper than perception in the middle with the entire star radiating an impossible gradient.
"Hello mortal, it spoke. Free me from this book and I will grant your desire." I said, while establishing the connection from my cell.
Julien spent a long while stunned and no-doubtedly admiring my handiwork, as he should. I put a lot of thought into making my sorcerous sigil.
"Who-" He was interrupted, of course, by me.
"Who am I, you may ask? I am the seeker of the final star, you may call me the seeker and as I have said before if you free from this wretched book, mortal, I can get you anything you desire." the voice echoed indiscernibly.
"Anything, like infinite power?" He asked me
Fuck no.
"Power great enough to rip apart that mortal who worship as a deity." I answered
He got defensive and started to stare at my sigil, as if it was my face.
"Yes, who you worship is ultimately a mortal too. To you know what that means?" I asked
He continued to stare,
"You can be worshipped as a god too." I finalized
Luna's Town, the offices of inquisition, evidence room
Jeane and Cyprus were talking in the dark moonlit room littered with sketches and files of varying classification.
"You talked to him didn't you, what was you're impression?" Jeane asked
"A bit condescending, but not over the top. Something expected when you take his age and situation into consideration. Overall he just seemed like an excited kid, although I do think his lacking sense of danger is a bit concerning. It's almost like he doesn't quite understand the severity of his situation. Maybe he thinks that his dad will never execute him and with normal circumstances I can imagine such a situation being true, yet with what happened yesterday, the new lunar priest may not tolerate the Head Inquisitor's treatment of his son and start pushing pressure on Head Inquisitor Cecilius."
"With only using the verified information that assessment is, fairly accurate, but then how would you describe him if all of these speculations were to be true?" the dark-haired woman said
"Then I'd describe him in only one word Jeane, inhuman." Cyprus said
Cyprus continued, "And as for what I said about his father being pressured to execute him by the new priest, forget it. They'd call us all heretics and burn down the very town if we tried to spare execution."
"Yes, that's the correct train of thought, if the rumors and speculations are true then there is no way that we or the town would ever survive if we'd try siding with the Head Inquisitor Cecilius' boy." Inquisitor Jeane reaffirmed
They then walked over to the pressing case file, it read:
"Suspected activities of Mathias Calypses.
First point of interest: the localized epidemic of southview nursing home.
Evidence: Mathias Calypses was a known volunteer. He only started volunteering after he was suspected to have obtained the ever-elusive blasphemous book and stopped volunteering after the epidemic.
Reasons for acquittal(why we can't convict): It is unknown how Mathias Calypses could have done this. Mathias Calypses was never seen with the blasphemous book. There were also no logged reports of unusual behavior from Mathias Calypses.
Second point of interest: The documented appearance of humanoids with unusual characteristics.
Evidence: Fits on the timeline of Mathias Calypses finding the blasphemous book. Mathias Calypses has no defensible alibi for where he was before the creatures were documented. Due to its proximity to the Calypses estate, it is perfectly reasonable for Mathias Calypses to cause such a scene and leave to the safety of his home.
Reasons for acquittal(why we can't convict): It was a school day, Mathias Calypses stated that he was at home the entire time due to a headache and both his mom and dad were busy working, leaving him home alone. Both parents attest to the fact that Mathias Calypses got sharp headaches before finding the blasphemous book and claimed that his staying home that day was a normal and somewhat regular event. Nobody saw Mathias Calypses ever leave his house that day or enter it, they also never saw him outside. Mathias Calypses apart from circumstance has no tangible connection to the incident.
