Assigned to collect the soul of a terminally ill boy, Death arrives at a quiet hospital room expecting nothing more than a routine passing. But when the boy’s mother wakes and sees him — truly sees him — something impossible happens. She makes a promise. Not to Death, but to herself. Death should turn away. Report her. Erase her. But instead… he lingers. Watches. Listens. For the first time in his existence, he hesitates.



As the mother descends into darkness to save the only light left in her world, Death finds himself caught between duty and feeling — between the law of the cosmos and the pull of something painfully human.
