Synopsis

For thirteen years, Sio has failed at the one thing every Veyr should be able to do: make a Claim. Nothing has ever accepted him, so one night, mostly out of frustration, he looks up and tries to Claim the sky. He doesn't expect the sky to actually break open.

Something from the Passage tears its way into the living world and attacks him. Somehow, instead of losing his body to it, Sio wakes to find that he has finally made his first Claim, only to discover a Scar has appeared on his soul as well. A Veyr should never possess both.

Now an unknown entity shares his soul, his new Claim bends distance in ways he barely understands, and the creature he Claimed had been running from something far worse.

Sio spent most of his life believing nothing in this world would accept him. Maybe he was looking in the wrong world.

I don't know why Sio feels more relatable than many of the usual MC was a loser until he/she got powers. Maybe it's because Sio felt nothing but disappointment even when special things were supposed to be happening to him. I got to say, I do like the progression of the story, though.

Really interesting start. The Passage, Riven and Veyr system feels different from the usual leveling systems, and I like that there’s still a lot we don’t understand about Sio’s Claim. Sio himself is probably my favorite part so far because he actually has personality and humor instead of feeling like a generic MC. I also love the contrast between the beautiful world and the creepy things hiding behind it. Definitely curious to see how dark this gets.

Here is a short, punchy review for Royal Road (exactly 141 characters): "An incredible premise with fantastic tension! The suspense in these first two chapters hooked me instantly. I can't wait for more!"

Really interesting premise! The Passage, Veyr, Riven, and the Claim system immediately make the world feel mysterious. I especially like how Sio starts as someone who can’t Claim anything, only to trigger something completely unexpected. Definitely curious to see where his first Claim leads!

This has a really cool power system. Riven, Veyr, Claims and the Passage all feel like they’re part of something much bigger that we haven’t seen yet. Sio is fun to read too, especially because he can joke around without ruining the darker atmosphere. The mystery behind his first Claim has me hooked. Definitely following this one.

The claim system is an interesting prospect and i love how descriptive you were with the story and also how realistic sio as a character is. Overall i enjoyed reading this and will be looking forward for future chapters

The worldbuilding is what hooked me first. The idea of souls passing through the Passage before birth and coming back as either Riven or Veyr is really creative, and the mystery around Sio makes it even better. I also like that the story doesn’t dump every answer at once. You learn things alongside the MC, which makes the creepy moments hit harder. The setting looks beautiful on the surface, but there’s clearly something much more dangerous underneath. Really curious to see what Sio’s first Claim actually becomes.

The most noticeable part about this story is it's character design imao. The side characters all have intricate personalities, instead of a bland question and answer type of response.

The story immerses you in an underworld that feels genuinely dangerous and lived-in from the very first page. I found that it avoids cheap plot armor entirely, anchoring its tension in characters whose exhaustion, grit, and street smarts you can genuinely feel. The world-building stays organic, reinforcing a dark, survivalist tone where nobody is entirely safe and every alliance looks fragile. Overall, it's an intensely gripping novel that keeps you constantly hooked on how the characters will survive their own dangerous power plays.

Been in a slump trying to find something that grabs my attention. Finally found it with this story, but only 50+ chapters out currently. My first impression was that it seems similar to the movie Jumper, but that is just based on vibes. The world comes through as a funky cross between futuristic with Wild West. One area I hope to see improved is the dialogue. It was maybe a bit too quippie. Even when the situation is serious it sometimes slides into unserious banter between characters. It doesn’t detract too much though.

This one hooked me faster than I expected. Sio being both Veyr and Riven makes the whole claim/scar system way more interesting, and the stuff with Silas later on adds a really good mystery around his powers. The Vise arc also gets pretty intense once Mira is involved. Definitely recommend it if you like darker progression fantasy with an actual mystery behind the mc’s abilities.
