Chapter 26

After reading out the order, the City Defense Army officer left with his soldiers, unwilling to stay even a second longer to provide a detailed explanation.

They left behind the restless poor who were trembling with fear as they worriedly discussed the order.

"What does this mean?" said one of the younger ones with a bitter expression. He was barely considered young and strong, but if the lord wanted to enlist commoners into the army, he would most likely be involved.

"What else can it be? Roping in servant soldiers," an elderly man said with a sigh. Helplessly, he said, "Everyone, let's pack up. Maybe we have to leave town soon."

"Leave town?!" a lady cried in fear. "It's going to be snowing soon; if we leave town now, how are we going to survive!"
