Gao Yang and the others had retreated roughly more than 1,200 meters away, moving from the building south of the E97 Motorway where they had planned the ambush, to an open area on the north side of the E97 Motorway—a grove formed by shrubs and small trees.
Now, all that was left was to wait. Gao Yang had been waiting a long time to ambush the Iron Madonna, but this final stretch of waiting was different—because whether the entire plan succeeded or not would be determined in the next few hours, until dawn.
There was no firing angle. Gao Yang and the others were on the backside of the building, and only before the Iron Madonna moved into the ambush zone would there be a tiny gap and a brief moment to fire. But if they fired then, the Iron Madonna would certainly never enter the ambush zone, so that minuscule firing angle was worthless.
At this moment, Gao Yang was praying for two things: one, that the Iron Madonna would come; and two, that the Russians wouldn't interfere.
