Jim was an accountant, then he died. Nothing complicated, he just died peacefully in his sleep. But apparently the universe thought it was too peaceful. So now he's here in a collapsing kingdom, with people begging him for help and calling him a seer. So he does what any "sensible" person would do, he runs right out the door, and into a war.
