Please, Believe Me

"Well then, Anna, how shall we deal with you?"

Anna turned to the door, only to see a tall, handsome man with silver hair. She unconsciously bit her bottom lip, waiting to hear what the other party had to say.

She knew who this was; it was the CEO of the company, Roland. She'd never spoken to him before, but she'd seen him around the building while running errands. His lean figure and perfectly symmetrical face made him a common topic of conversation for the women in the company. There wasn't one woman who hadn't imagined him storming into their office and just sweeping her out of there. Of course, Anna was no exception.

No one spoke for a few minutes, each seemingly waiting for the other the other to go first.

Roland coldly said, "Anna, I asked you a question, it wasn't rhetorical."

Anna blushed and replied, "Sorry…"

"Well?"

"It's not what you think. I really did go there after receiving an email, I'm certain."

"Then why have our technicians found no traces on the server? The email's not even on your phone, so what happened to it?"

"I don't know, but I definitely received an email from my supervisor instructing me to go to the server room! Please, believe me…" Anna's voice cracked as she said that, trying to hold back the tears.

She had been kept in this room all night after being manhandled and then questioned, during which no one had believed her. She knew this meeting was her last chance to keep her job, and if she was thrown out of the company for corporate espionage, she'd definitely have trouble finding another job after this.

Glancing to the side, Roland stared at the door. "Well, there's an easy way to check if you're telling the truth or not."

At that moment, Barov hurriedly entered the room. Sweat covered his forehead, chasing after Roland today was more exercise than he'd done all month.

"Ah, Barov, you're here. Good, I need you to go back to my office and fetch my laptop. As fast as you can!"

Barov's expression dropped. "Sir, can I at least have a glass of water before I have to run agai—"

Before Barov could finish, Roland interrupted, "What are you still doing here? Hurry!"

With an ugly expression, Barov cast a side-eye at Roland before storming out, as he muttered under his breath, "It's not like I'm doing it because you want me to…"

Five minutes later, another office worker brought Roland's laptop into the room. According to the office worker, Barov was too tired to sprint back with the laptop, so sent him.

'Well, it's not like I could have said Barov was in a mood with Roland and didn't want to see him right now…' the office worker thought as he left the room.

Anna was curious about what Roland was planning. Did he actually believe her?

Roland could see right through her and said, "It's not that I believe you, I just don't want to fire you without having our top computer expert look into it."

"Oh…" Anna responded, rather dejectedly.

Then she remembered.

'By top computer expert, could he mean…'
