"Anna!"
When she heard his voice, Anna swiftly turned her head to see the two of them at the door.
"Roland, what are you doing here?"
"When you didn't show up at the conference, I had Barov look into what had happened.
"Since there was no reply when we called you, Barov sent people to search the routes you might've taken here. One of them heard about the traffic collision and that two people were involved, one of which was a young woman matching your description."
"Oh no, I never even thought about that. I'm sorry for causing so much trouble. But I haven't received any call—"
She stopped halfway through her words as she patted down her pockets.
"It seems my phone fell out during the accident."
"Well, none of that matters now," said Roland as he carefully inspected her from head to toe. She was sitting in a chair in one of those hospital gowns. From what he could tell, she had no serious. Injuries, just a few bumps and bruises.
"Tell me, are there any serious injuries?"
"No, the doctors have performed a physical examination and found nothing wrong. They're keeping me in a while longer to check for any signs of a concussion."
"That's excellent news!"
Roland was overjoyed, and at the edge of the room, right by the door, Veronica heaved a huge sigh of relief. A genuine, grateful smile appeared on her face. This small sin of causing a few scratches was something she could bear.
"Yes, I was extremely lucky this man was there," said Anna, as a trace of worry appeared on her face. "However, he's yet to wake up. I don't even know his name."
As Anna stared concernedly at the unconscious, handsome young man on the bed next to her, Roland felt a pang of jealousy in his heart.
'I know he's saved your life, but please don't look at him like that. I might pull out his life support if this goes on!'
Of course, Roland would never do such a thing and he knew she was only grateful to this man, but that still didn't stop the feelings within him.
Suddenly, the room was flooded with hospital staff.
Panicked by the sudden activity, Anna asked, "What's going on? Has something happened to him? The machines haven't been beeping, so I thought he was doing fine."
"He's doing great; we're just moving you both to more comfortable rooms."
Behind the doctors and nurses, Veronica was issuing commands. As someone whose words had power around here, the hospital staff had no choice but to immediately move the two patients to the best rooms.
Noticing that it was Veronica's doing, Anna frowned slightly; she still hadn't forgotten that it was Veronica who'd framed her.
"I'm fine here, thank you. Let the room go to someone who needs it more."
"I'm sorry, miss, it's the doctor's orders; you can complain after you've settled into the new room."
As Anna and the young man were rolled out of the room on their beds, Roland said to Veronica, "That's so sweet of you, Roni. Thanks for looking out for them both."
She awkwardly smiled back at him.
"It's no problem," she forced out as guilt flashed across her face.
