Cancelled

Saturday was even busier than the previous day. Although there wasn't as much work to do as on the Friday, there were fewer people there which meant that the staff who were able to work the weekend overtime had even more on their plates. Some people had luckily kept the Saturday free or had been able to cancel their plans, but unfortunately, not every had been able to, which led to the current workload.

Barov, of course, was the busiest. Just as he was going over Roland's diary, double checking the following week's events, he noticed an entry that they'd both neglected. He immediately rushed into Roland's office and said, "Roland, I've just noticed your dinner with Veronica scheduled for tonight. Do you still plan on attending?"

Roland hesitated for a moment and then replied, "No, I don't have time for that. Plus, it would unfair of me if I went out for a nice dinner while you're all working. I'll just reschedule it; Roni will understand."

"A good choice, sir. Are you going to call her or shall I?"

"I will. You already have enough to do." Besides, Roland thought he could do with a break and a quick chat with a friend.

"… so I'll have to cancel tonight, I hope you understand, Roni."

Clenching her jaw, Veronica forcefully maintained her level tone. "Oh, it's fine, Roland, don't even worry about it. The business obviously comes first. We can have dinner any time."

Roland heaved a sigh of relief. "Ah, I'm so glad you understand. Look, I have to go, but I promise we'll go for dinner another day."

The moment Roland hung up, Veronica hurled her phone furiously at the wall.

"What the actual f*ck!" she screamed. However, remembering the staff who often eavesdropped outside her door, she quickly calmed herself down. Instead of screaming externally, she merely screamed internally.

'The heck is wrong with him? Who cancels a date with a beautiful girl just like that?

'Well, no, that's unfair of me. I can't blame him. He's merely doing what's best for his business, and as someone who wants to support him and his business, I shouldn't be angry at him for this.

'I should be angry at Anna instead. The reason he's in this whole mess is because she went to hospital. She distracted him at a critical moment, that b*tch!'

As curses flooded Veronica's mind, all naturally directed at Anna, she was suddenly thought of something. She stood there silently as the cogs in her mind whirled, developing the thought into a plan of action.

'Yes, this will do. Roland will definitely like this.'

She sauntered into her walk-in wardrobe and started picking out what to wear. After deliberating for quite some time, she decided on her outfit for the day.

Veronica smirked to herself and thought, 'A most suitable battledress.'

After showering and getting changed, she briefly logged into her computer to check on some things before logging off and leaving her room.
