I Should Tell Him

Although saddened by the fact that Roland was incredibly obtuse when it came to matters of the heart, Anna still managed to find the silver lining.

'At least Roland being unaware of such things means he won't have noticed Veronica's feelings. I don't care what Barov says, that girl likes him… a lot.'

She sat there, thinking up her course of action.

'There are two matters I need to deal with.

'One, I like Roland.

'Two, Veronica is Nightingale, a threat to Roland and myself.

'For number one, I should just tell him how I feel, but that's easier said than done. I couldn't show my face in the office if he turned me down.

'For number two, I should also just tell him about it. He's a better programmer than Veronica, right? He should be able to find some proof. But the issue is: will he believe me? They're childhood friends, and I'm just some newcomer; there's no competition; he will trust her more.'

A frown appeared on Anna's face.

'This is really going to take some thinking…'

Back at work on Monday, Anna strode into the office confidently.

'I know what I need to do.'

She walked up to Roland's office door but was stopped by Barov.

"Apologies, but you can't go in their right now; Roland is conducting a formal interview."

"Oh, what position is it? It must be important for the CEO to be conducting the interview personally."

A confused expression appeared on Barov's face. "Have you forgotten your savior already? Don't you remember that Roland offered him a job here?"

The confusion on Barov's face quickly turned to concern. "Maybe your injuries were worse than we thought. Are you certain you haven't suffered from a concussion?"

"Quite sure, thank you. It merely slipped my mind that he might be coming here."

Disdain briefly flashed across Barov's eyes.

"Admit it, you forgot your savior."

Anna went to defend herself, but Barov didn't give her the chance as he said, "This is pointless. We're wasting company time. Get to work and you can discuss whatever it is with Roland later. And you really ought to get started, you have a lot of work to catch up on."

Worry flitted across her face as she turned to look at her desk. The worry turned out to be well founded. If anything, Anna hadn't worried enough! Piles of paper were covering her desk; they were veritable mountains!

"Good lord," she muttered. "I was only away for a day, how is there so much?"

Barov's sharp ears heard her question, and he answered, "You missed a very hectic day. Then the company asked for all available employees to come in over the weekend.

"Whilst you did only miss one day, there are three days' worth of work you need to get through. If I were you, I'd get started now."

Dread written all over her face, Anna trudged over to her desk.

Now there were even more things she needed to deal with on top of Veronica and Roland...
