I Shouldn't Tell Her

Anna looked away from Carter shyly.

'What if he was talking about me? Does he really care about my safety?

'Besides, who else could it be? It's not like Veronica needs any protection. She's rich and has her own people.'

Anna thought about it for a moment and was confident that he hadn't been talking about anyone else.

'Then if it wasn't anyone else, that means he does still care about me; I must have read too much into that email the other day.'

Butterflies were running rampant in Anna's stomach. 'Knowing' that Roland liked her this much was making her incredibly anxious.

Carter watched her in her daydream and couldn't help but chuckle. "Do you really like him that much?"

Anna snapped out of it and her face immediately flushed bright red. After a moment, she let out a light sigh.

"It really is quite obvious, isn't it?"

They both stood there in an awkward silence.

"Damn…" muttered Carter.

"What is it?" questioned Anna.

"Well, I was hoping this dashing savior would be able to buy the damsel in distress a bite to eat, but it looks like I won't get a chance."

Anna chuckled at this, not knowing if he was telling the truth or just lightening the mood. "Well, I would certainly like to buy my savior a drink and some food. How about I treat you and Barov some time? I owe him too for all the help he's given."

Carter smiled, showing off his pearly whites. "That sounds fabulous."

They happily headed back up to the office, continuing their conversation from before like the previous awkward moment had never happened.

"Yes, that's right."

"Yep, uh huh."

"Correct."

"If that's what you want, we can do that."

In his office, Roland was having a very one-sided conversation with Veronica.

'Now that we've become… something, Veronica has become… very enthusiastic. It's nice, but this is a very new side of Roni to me.'

Roland chuckled to himself. He loved that he was now able to see a new side of Veronica; a side he'd never seen before.

Eventually Roland realized his break was over and brought their call to an end.

"So, we're agree that we'll go out for dinner on Wednesday?"

"Good, we'll probably speak tomorrow, but if not, I'll see you then."

"Ok, bye-bye."

Roland hung up with a broad smile on his face. He was looking forward to his date like a kid looks forward to Christmas. This would be his first date in a few years, and to think it would be with someone he shared so much history with!

To say he was excited would be an understatement.

A knock at the door brought him out of his reverie.

"Yes, yes, come in."

Carter walked in and quickly walked up to Roland's desk. "Sir, I've been shown around and am prepared to start work now. I just wished to know if you had any further information I need to know, or if there's anything that needs to be taken care of urgently."

Looking at Roland's contented, relaxed expression, Carter could stop himself from asking, "Has something good happened? You're looking awfully happy."

"Oh, really? I was just talking to the girl I mentioned earlier, sorting out our date this week. Truth be told, I'm quite excited," said Roland giddily.

Carter smiled awkwardly.

'Oh sh*t! I told Anna he was talking about her, and now she's all happy about it. I don't want to tell her. Telling her would just upset her. I shouldn't tell her, right?'
