It was early morning, Adam was on his bed playing with the three copper coins in his hand after waking up, trying to think of an idea to earn money.
"Seems like I really need to hunt, huh." Adam sighed and stood up from bed.
After thinking for a while, he didn't have any good ideas on how to earn money besides hunting beasts. He left while waving to the innkeeper, heading to the forest.
'I feel like I'm forgetting something...' Thought Adam as he energetically ran to Shabu Forest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Fuck...." Adam was dragging his tired body forward. He forgot how far away Shabu Forest was.
After a long time, he finally reached the place. He laid down on a tree trunk, sweating like a cow in summer.
"Damned distance..."Adam felt like he was going to become a marathon runner if he needed to walk this much every day.
After a good rest, he cautiously walked around in the forest, wary of any surprise attacks. He unexpectedly saw another black wolf a bit far from him, who had not noticed him yet.
Adam was somewhat weirded out by this. Don't those things walk around in packs? Looking at it a bit more, he suddenly had an idea.
He picked up some stones from the ground and climbed a tree somewhat near the wolf. He assumed a baseball throwing stance, aimed at the unaware canine, and threw the stone as hard as he could.
The wolf loudly yelped in pain and surprise as a foreign object hit it hard, looking around angrily for the offender.
"Hey you poor excuse of a dog, I'm here!" Shouted Adam from the top of the tree while throwing another stone, which the wolf dodged this time.
The wolf furiously looked at him and ran to the tree while growling. Seeing Adam on top of it he started using his claw to slowly climb it.
Adam already started casting Fireball long ago, and when the wolf was nearly reaching him, he shot the spell right in the poor thing's face.
the wolf fell back down to the ground in massive pain, its body on fire as it rolled and struggled the hardest it could with its now deformed face. At some point, the flames died down and the wolf slowly stopped moving.
Adam slid down from the tree and walked close to the wolf to inspect it, he was waiting up there for it to die for minutes.
When he was close enough, the wolf suddenly came back to life and jumped at him, biting his robed arm.
"Fuck, get off me!!!"
The now panicked Adam punched its deformed face with all his might while falling to the ground in pain and panic. The wolf was punched off his arm and just stopped moving altogether for real this time. The wolf's jaw strength was far less than what he expected.
'Was that its last effort before death?' He looked at the unmoving wolf some traces of fear.
Adam stared at his robe which now had bite holes in it.
'So this is the physical attack resistance, huh.' That last bite should have definitely cut very deep inside his arm, yet it only made some small holes in his robe.
"System what was that wolf?"
[Rank 0 Spirit Beast. It was one of the weakest types, being barely above a normal animal and a match to early-stage Martial Disciples at best.]
Adam already knows the martial artist's ranks, or as they were called here, realms after asking the system. They were Martial Disciple, True Martial, Martial Master, Grandmaster, Emperor, Saint, and Immortal. Usually divided into Early-stage, Middle-stage, Late-Stage, and Peak.
He picked the wolf's corpse up and headed towards the city while carrying it on his back. On the way home, he found an interesting thing, a pool of sparkling white liquid.
"System, what is this?"Adam put down the wolf and asked while staring at the pond, hesitating if he should touch it or not.
[This a low-level spirit pool used by Martial Disciples, it can help them advance faster. The host wants to sell it to the system?]
"Sell it." Adam nodded and touched the pool as the system asked him to, a vortex appeared out of his finger and the white color of the pool was slowly sucked away, transforming it into a pure clean water pool.
[100 Points acquired.]
Adam kind of regretted agreeing to sell it on impulse just now, but it already happened and there was no use crying over spoiled milk.
He checked the shop and found out he now had one hundred points, he bought a spell he was itching to buy since the first time he opened the shop, Mana Shield.
The weakest and lowest level type of magic shield but also the easiest to master, as it only needs to gather mana in the right shape and not transform it, it doesn't need any chanting.
A mage without a defensive spell is good as dead, even a normal person with a bow can easily kill them.
The spell was fifty points, and after buying it, a scroll appeared in the ground with a flash of light. He picked it up and in the same way he learned the Fireball spell, knowledge flowed into his mind with a rather uncomfortable headache.
The headache quickly passed as he smiled excitedly.
He was eager to test it so he waved his staff, gathering magic power in a bubble shape around it which quickly expanded, forming a light blue almost transparent sphere around him.
He did tests and asked some questions to the ever-helpful system, which helped him figure out how to better use this spell.
He found out that the shield uses one magical power per two seconds active, and impacts deplete extra mana out of him.
After playing a little bit more with Mana Shield, he got the wolf's corpse back from the ground and went back to the city, wondering what he should do with the remaining fifty points.
