The following night, I was teleported to Kansas City. Light glowed from the windows of the skyscrapers and buildings from the people working overnight or late night shifts. There, the skyscrapers seemed to form a straight line through the middle of the city.
I wore the same thing I wore yesterday, except I now had a thick bracelet made of thin strings with the tip of it tied around my middle finger, so that I didn't have to fumble for the tip of the string when the time comes.
I closed my eyes, sensing for a specific aura that only vampires had. My concentration was broken however, when I instinctively created a small barrier just in time to block a dagger pointed at me.
"I see the Keeper is as vigilant as ever," the voice said.
"I see your as eager to kill me as always," I replied to him.
"Of course! You entrapped my mother, didn't you?" his voice raising in rage.
"Perhaps I did."
"Do you know why I'm like this?" he asked, his eyes turning crazed, his face disfigured to the point of no recognition of who he once was. Throughout his body were scars that never healed right, becoming raised and hideous.
"Perhaps," I told him. Truth be told, they all said this to me every single time we met, so of course I would know why they were like this.
"It's because of you!" he roared, lunging forwards yet again. I quickly dislodged the string and started threw it towards him before dodging to the right.
Anticipating that movement, he switched the daggers direction and tried to stab me. I was faster, and I simply kept running right, the strings winding around him. Yet he didn't notice the thin strings as he was blind with rage, no doubt seeing red and nothing but his target.
"Contract," I whispered as I saw him get dizzy.
I quickly severed the string and jumped backwards as the string contracted until his body exploded. By default, the bloody strings untangled themselves from what was left of his body and started to create a forest like pattern on the roof.
I'm sure that the vampires back in my forest will enjoy this snack. All I have to say is that Ethan is getting lazier and lazier as his representatives are getting weaker and weaker. Or perhaps he has an ace up his sleeve. Whatever he's planning, it has nothing to do with me at the moment.
For now, I should simply focus on the current job. I closed my eyes yet again, sensing for her aura.
