Bk 2: chapter three (12)

Lizzy froze the moment she met those scarlet eyes through his mask. This was the first time she was this close to the master.

Fear like never before coursed through her veins. She saw him lift his hand and panicked. She hurriedly wore the amulet and a dark cloud swallowed her in. All turned grey around her. She could still see the master before her. His scarlet eyes remained coloured in this grey world. His eyes remained on her, never leaving for one second.

His hands which had paused halfway way continued towards her face to lift her veil.

No, she could not let him see what she truly looked like; she panicked and hurriedly stepped backwards, only to fall through the wall. She sprung up and looked around in surprise. For some reason, the world had returned full of colour, so she looked down to confirm that she was still wearing the amulet.

Seeing it still around her neck, she did not stand to figure out what just happened and bolted through the corridor. Just as she ran off, the Nether Lord's figure stepped through the wall she had just left behind. He stared at the figure running off and followed.

As Lizzy ran, the world around her flickered between grey and colourful. She noticed how people panicked the moment she ran past them as the world turned colourful, and how they panicked even more when it went grey before her eyes. She soon realized that whenever the world greyed, no one could see her.

She almost jumped in happiness except, she was not sure how to keep herself invisible. She remembered the several exits open at this time in the nether halls and decided upon the best. She knew that exit was basically deserted as very little went that way, but she did not know what was at the end of the corridor. She had never been there before. If not for the map she had been peeking into for the past few days, she would not have known that the deserted corridor led to an exit.

She ran down the staircase as fast as she could. By now, she understood that no one could see her, so she did not bother to be careful. Nether People ran past her in a hurry. By their panic, she was sure something big had happened. This was her chance. She could use this as a distraction and leave without getting caught. For a moment, she glanced behind her and her heart froze. The master was following her so closely; there was no gap between them.

Without thinking, she grabbed the railing and jumped down the stairs. To her death, she did not care. She had to shake the master off!
