Bk 2: Chapter Five (12)

The night was long to many, but longer for a young girl standing in her chambers. Her maids walked in with heads bowed. The cold nature of the room caused fear to run through their veins.

"Kneel!" the young lady ordered and the maids hurriedly complied.

"What did you find out?" she asked even though she knew the answer.

"Young master Gunt… He… We heard that he is out joining the people to feast," the maid stuttered.

"Feast?" the lady said and spun around and threw her cup in one swift motion. The maid did not have the ability to dodge the cup and it slammed right onto her forehead and clattered all over the room. Just then a woman walked in and glanced around the room then back at the angry girl.

"Clean this place and leave," she ordered the maids and they hurried off the ground and started clearing up the broken cup fragments on from the ground.

"Just look at how cold this place is. Is this how you take care of your young miss?" she scolded. The maids did not dare respond to her accusation. The room was warm enough. The chill in the air was not caused by nature's sneeze but by the chill emitting from their young miss' heart. They hurriedly left, leaving the two women in the room.

"How can you react like this at such a time?" the woman scolded the girl.

"He went there, Mother. On the eve of our marriage he went there," she complained, getting up to rush to the woman's side. Her cold look melted into anger.

"So what? Because of Ligrel clan gaining a foothold in the Vigron territory under our watch, there is already tension between our clan and the Vigron. Those maids the Vigron sent to serve you, do you think they came to serve? They might as well be spies. You must watch what you do," the woman scolded.

"Mother," she stumped her feet in anger.

"Isn't he a man? He will have many women after you. If you cannot stomach it now, what will you do when he brings in concubines to your household? Especially with his title as heir, it is normal for him to have several women," her mother said.

"Brother Gunt said he will not take in another woman but me. He had said that yet now he is doing this? He was very faithful to me until he came to our clan to stay. Everyone in the clan knows he is mine, yet a woman dares bed, my husband, before my wedding day? Mother, you must talk to Father to deal with this person" Her anger could not be appeased.

"Your father is too busy to worry about this nonsense," the woman turned away, making to leave.

"Am I no longer your daughter once I marry? He dares to humiliate me in extension you; the Ostie clan's Madam, yet you refuse to defend me? The Vigron and Ostie are of equal powers. Why do we have to bow our heads?" the young girl challenged.

"Shut up! No matter what, you must rein in your anger. Even I must hold my anger in, talkless you. Your elder brother died in the alignment battleground and now, that woman's son is heir to the clan. Your father will not spare us a look,"

"So father no more cares for us mother and daughter, doesn't that mean that the Vigron will not care for me? Doesn't that mean when I marry I will not have the support of home? Mother, you and Father have been married for decades; you will not just let those people suppress us right? After all, we still have Gon. He is also your son. You will not let them suppress me, right?" she grabbed onto her mother's wide sleeves.

"Hold your grievances in, Hu'er! The night has journeyed long and day is pacing not too far away yet you have not slept? How will you marry tomorrow if you are too tired from today?" she asked and made to leave, only to pause at the door.

"Your mother will make the best decision for you. Don't worry, the Vigron heir will marry you tomorrow. Trust your mother to handle things and sleep," she said and left not long after.
