Bk 2: Chapter Five (16)

"Don't you want to know what I will do?" he asked.

"Not to the point of letting you sleep here,"

"Even when it has much to do with you?" he asked and watched her consider his words, "You seem to forget that you are married to me. I don't feel that we are much of partners, why would I tell you what I am planning?" he asked.

"You wish that I submit myself to you? You cannot request that of me," she said.

"Do you understand why we married, Amie?" he asked and she noticed he was no more smiling. The cold look in his eyes scared her slightly.

"For my brother's name,"

"And who gave him that name?" he asked, approaching her.

"Lady Wickshire,"

"You exist in her bubble, dear wife. If you leave it, you will become useless," he said

"Are you threatening me to go to bed with you?" she asked and he sighed slightly and approached her till she was trapped between himself and the desk.

"Your imagination is quite alive, isn't it? You miss the point," he ran his hand through his hair.

"What point?" she seemed to say through her teeth.

"Don't fight me, Amie. You can fight any other person, just don't fight me. You are mine. I will not harm you," he said.

He had long left before Amie came out of her thoughts. The sponge walls of a young heart seemed to have absorbed his last words; you are mine. No matter what Amie did throughout the day, she could not seem to concentrate. When her mind finally put down that phrase, she was slightly unwilling. The thought that she would have to submit did not sit well with her. Her head which hung halfway into the clouds at those strong words, descended to despair quite quickly.

Maybe because she had been told a few times too many that she was a Krain, or that she had enjoyed the reverence of many brought by her association with the Ligrel clan, she felt indignant. Then she thought back to his words. He had said they were not partners. Did this mean there was a chance to be? She was sure of one thing; Krain or not, she had no real physical backing except King Adrian.

By the time night came, she turned to her maid and ordered that the king's dinner be brought to her. The maids complied and informed the kitchens. A few minutes later, she was holding a tray and walking towards the king's chambers. She did not bother to bring attendants with her as she made determined steps towards the king's wing. By the time she had approached, his attendants were leaving. They made to speak to her, but Amie assumed they wished to stop her.

"Leave," she ordered halfway through their bow and they complied. She walked into the receiving hall and directly into the inner bedroom. She placed the tray down on the table and looked around for him. With a frown, she stepped towards the inner room, just in time for the king to come out stark naked. He paused at her shocked form and red face. He noticed she was too shocked to move, her eyes trained on his lower body.

"Don't be like this, darling. No matter how deprived you feel, there is no need to be overly excited," he teased and her face only got redder.
