Whilst running Shane furiously shook his head as thoughts of doubt began to creep within once more. He was given a task to do and IF he would succeed if that would mean helping any more future victims from this sinister experiment. But he couldn't shake away the thoughts of what would occur IF he failed. If he did fail, that would mean the potential future victims which he envisioned wouldn't be saved and instead would have to suffer possibly even more excruciating torment as security for any more attempts of liberation would be denied swiftly with an inescapable, destructive iron fist.
Shaking away the thoughts of doubt he hurriedly began to try and reassure himself his speed increase and body strengthen, thus allowing him to reach halfway through the hallway after rushing up the stairs in only a few seconds rather than tens of seconds.
'Shane, just calm down, don't worry about it. It all depends on the resounding IF; if I fail and I know I won't fail… I can't fail, I shan't fail… There's just too much at stake and maybe after that… father and mother may see me as... me again and not as a boy with outstanding talent… like how I always wanted them to see me as.'
Shane rapidly moving legs began to slow down so as to not ram straight into the door and face the demons within unprepared. When he was near a steady walking pace, images of his parents congratulating him on his success as their son, not Shane Griffith, a one in a million talent, he saw something obscure on the door; two sparkling, attention seeking, small white orbs on the left side of the door. He was clueless on what those two orbs represented and was about to halt when something odd occurred, though everything that had happened so far today was already odd.
"Throw us at the door young child."
Shane heard a soothing, feminine, attractive voice gently whisper out. Quickly turning his head around frantically in an attempt to search for the owner of the voice. What was baffling and somewhat disturbing to Shane was that after looking around, no owner for the voice could be found.
"Start running again! The orders are quite simple, human! Throw us at the orbs as you ram into the door."
Another voice rang out, this time the voice spoke in a superior and more aggressive tone. Shane baffled at the word 'us' immediately glanced down at Issolde and Volcanis only to be shocked at the sight of two piercing eyes gazing directly at him. The Phoenix on Volcanis and the snowflake on Issolde now looked like gaping black holes with a single demonic reptilian-like eye in each. Issolde's azure slitted eye emitted icy blue particles which seemed to mimic slow falling snow on a cold winter's day with the same calming aura that an empty, white wonderland would bring. Whilst Volcanis' crimson slitted eye emitted non-surprisingly the polar opposite. Fiery red particles which mimicked volcanic ash with an unfathomable aura which practically screeched aloud.
Shane's hands shook as he stared into the two reptilian slit-like eyes as all he could muster the courage to mutter was, "You're… you're alive?"
----------
"You're… you're alive?" My shaky, unconfident and nervous words barely managed to squirm their way out of my mouth. The two daggers which Nemesis had gifted me were alive…? How? How was this possible? I saw him conjure them up with his powers, it is impossible to create life and bind it to weapons unless he…
"Shane, stop overthinking things. No, Nemesis didn't use the souls of the victims he has slain and consumed. Those souls are long gone anyway, they're required for him to rejuvenate and restore his friend, Hunger's true form."
The female voice replied to me with the same serene voice, though this time her voice sounded rushed, almost as if she were in a hurry. Why would she be in a hurry, it wasn't like an army was going to stop by this desolate town specifically for this brothel and examine it and to search tirelessly for him, right..? Yeah, that wouldn't happen, it would be too coincidental for it to occur.
"We're rushed because of Nemesis' own private matter, this is the entire reason he actually came here to deal with this place and the [Invoked Project] for Lucas has done something to one of his companions… one who he holds extremely dear."
This time, Volcanis replied, I could tell it was him because of his aggressive tone of voice. To confirm it, as if on cue, my body began to heat up; the heat was unlike what I expected with his temperament, it was warm. No, not just warm, my pains and doubts which I had been so worried over disappeared in an instant, it was truly a miracle.
"How did you-" I began before being rudely interrupted by Volcanis again, "Just stop asking questions Shane, jeez no wonder why Nemesis just altered your trust to him, otherwise I'm sure that he'd miss out the time to save her."
Volcanis began to scoff as he complained, my body temperature returns back to normal while all I could do was think to myself.
'Altered my trust towards Nemesis..? He can do such a thing? How… how powerful is he, is he really just a kid like me? What does he mean by saving her anyway, who's 'her'!? There are many girls being held captive by these guys yet he involved himself in the entire [Invoked Project] as he called it just because of one girl, who is she, his sister? Mother perhaps? There's no way it could be a lover, even I know that demons don't hit the age of puberty until their age reached the double digits.'
I quickly returned back to reality, away from the thoughts which lingered in my mind. I would certainly have many questions for Nemesis after this was over, but for right now all I could do was to do as he asked, after all, if there were still hostile demons within the building, it would be quite problematic to search for whatever he was aiming for here. But no matter what, I need to know what he did to me and my trust towards him, how is it possible for someone's trust, someone's emotions towards another person to be manipulated? Isn't this somewhat like what Lucas did to those girls, the ones who serve...
I shivered at the thought of Nemesis controlling me like a puppet to do whatever he wanted to and took several deep, heavy breaths as I stared at the two illuminating white orbs on the door. Trust… I couldn't escape even if I wanted to now, I was too far deep, I saw Nemesis' speed for myself, he cleared something which would take me several seconds in the blink of an eye, he clearly isn't someone on my level, so why? Why take me in?
Shaking my head I stopped asking questions like Issolde and Volcanis asked me to, I couldn't lose myself to the endless torrent of questions which arrived due to Nemesis' strange personality and choices. Instead of thinking further about the endless questions, I threw them. I threw both Issolde and Volcanis at the door which looked like it was made out of wood, although I knew it couldn't have been so simple after having seen the rest of the brothel.
Following the words which Volcanis had told him before my whole questioning everything moment, I flung my body against the door with all the strength that my four-year-old body could muster. Unlike what I expected with the door being instantly destroyed or something absurd like that, I landed on a soft, carpeted floor. I then heard distorted voices, one which sounded like a whale and a snake, it was quite bizarre.
Lifting myself up off the floor greeted me with two blobs or black blobs? That would certainly be the best way to describe then, two creatures which were in the form of some kind of giant jelly, but black, entirely pitch black, it was impossible for me to distinguish any features on the two other than the fact that they had humanoid shapes.
"My dear Shane, call upon us and we shall aid you."
I heard the voice of Issolde softly whisper within my ear, unsure as to whether or not the two blobs had heard what Issolde had said as they both ran at me, all I could do was like with Nemesis, trust.
'Issolde, Volcanis, come to me, now!'
I mentally screamed in my head like some child who believed in fictional human superheroes with impossible powers such as flight and laser eyes. Screaming this made me feel ashamed but that wasn't what was important at the moment as before I knew it my body froze up, losing all capability to move. A familiar feeling arose as I knew what was going to happen again. My body felt like it was thrown inside an oven and burnt to a crisp, my bones felt like they were on fire and would simply melt due to the extreme heat then in the next instant my body froze, entering a temperature reaching near absolute zero.
I was able to see the two humanoid blobs before me. Both stood, freakishly still, almost like they were mannequins. Eight orbs began to glisten on their humanoid shaped, jelly-like, bodies. Two appeared at the end of what I presumed to be their arms and another two at their legs, these orbs were all green in colour. One was located at the centre of their jelly-like bodies, their chest, another at the top of the jelly-like humanoid, which I easily attributed to the head. The chest's orb was a bright violet colour and the head's orb was crimson red. The second last orb was located just below the head's orb, which was the neck region and it unlike the others was white, only the orb's outline was visible on the blob's pitch black body. The last orb, however, was in a different area for each blob, the one which sounded like a whale had an orb located between its legs which gleamed with a crimson red. For the one which hissed like a snake, its orb was located below the one which represented its chest, it was around the belly which I quickly figured out.
With all these orbs appearing made me feel quite confused, what were they for? I knew what they represented but what were they for, and now that I think about it, why am I seeing them as black blobs with humanoid figures and not them for who they truly were, why was it censored for me?
"*Cough* *Cough*, sorry Shane, Nemesis had to alter your sight to for this, remember back at the entrance? I deem this unfit for your eyes, so this is the best I can do. Those orbs anyway, they're their vitals. I hope you enjoy the power of [Void Sight], this isn't the only thing it does, the rest shall be unlocked depending on whether you succeed or not. This is only a trial run anyway, these two are your test dummies which will be used to allow you to get comfortable with those orbs, however, don't take this as if some mock exam as if they are to hit you, you won't survive their strength even with your level. Good luck, we, including Nemesis, all wish you well in your test."
Issolde's voice which usually sounded calm, or at least from what I had heard of her so far sounded quite embarrassed and shy at the beginning, though as she neared the end her tone shifted to a more jovial one as she wished me luck. It felt weird, although this was just an exam to them, an exam whose failure would mean death for me, I actually felt happy, happy that Issolde mentioned that even with my level it wouldn't mean I would be guaranteed to succeed or survive… they were treating me fairly, as if I wasn't a rare talent, as if I was just some kid they had found… It was just what I wanted, a chance to be myself, Shane Griffith, a four-year-old banished to the Underworld, not Shane Griffith, now dead 3rd son of the Griffith family.
A small smile slowly crept onto my face as I called once again, but this time saying it aloud, "Issolde, Volcanis, I agree! Come to me now and let's show them what we're made of!" I said every word whilst meaning every single word, For I am Shane Griffith, now wielder of Issolde and Volcanis, even if it is temporary, I wish to savour this moment, this liberation I feel... and this liberating feeling swelling within me, I wish to share it with others, the ones trapped by this heinous project.
As I stated these words, my body to return from near freezing itself to death, which it would've if it were normal, but I knew I wasn't normal anymore. I knew something had altered my body, something extreme must've happened and I had a fairly good idea as to what did it. After my words rang out throughout the room, it was as if time had unfrozen itself too with my absolute zero state and the two humanoid blobs attacked me, probably thinking I was crazy to the end if they had heard what I screeched with all the energy within my body...
Sadly for them, I am crazy. After all, dead men aren't supposed to speak. Now, are they?
