Butcher Kain

More than 20 minutes had passed since Xiao Yun's conscious entered the world of virtual reality, yet…

"E-Excuse me… It has been more than 20 minutes since you began thinking of your in-game name… C-Can you please hurry up?"

The fairy had finally lost its patients and asked the young man who still has his eyes closed, pondering about his in-game name.

Opening his eyes back up, he spoke, "There's a time limit to choosing a name?"

"N-No, you do not."

"Good, then I will continue. Choosing an in-game name is of the utmost importance. It is definitely not something I can randomly pick," he said.

The fairy could feel it's conscious leaving its body after hearing that. It has encountered many players before, but none of them was as weird as this one. Why did he not pick a name before diving into this world? Why does it take so long to come up with a mere name? The fairy continued to wonder while Xiao Yun pondered about his name.

Just like when he used to be a gaming nerd, choosing a name for his in-game character wasted a lot of his time. And luckily there was no such thing as classes in this game, or else he would spend even more time pondering about which class to main.

Another half an hour had passed, yet Xiao Yun did not look like he was anywhere close to deciding his in-game name.

The fairy who had been hovering there with a bored and angry face finally opened its mouth.

"Hey! You---"

Xiao Yun suddenly interrupted the fairy.

"I got it. Soarra, that shall be my in-game name!"

Hearing his name, the fairy did not feel any less angry. Instead, it felt even angrier. A whole hour and he came up with that weird name, and it was even right before it blew up with rage? What the fuck! Fuck this human!

"Good! Now get the fuck out of my domain!"

The fairy waved its hands angrily, and the scenery in Xiao Yun's eyes changed.

He was no longer surrounded by darkness. Instead, he could see thousands of people wearing newbie clothing just like him. Looking around with curiosity, he could tell that he was in a village. Most likely the starting point for beginners like him.

And instead of running around and hoarding quests, Xiao Yun stood there with his eyes closed. He stood there silently, it was as if he had become one with nature.

The smell of the busy village entered his nose. The smell of iron being smelted, the smell of food being cooked, and the distinct smell only nature can have, they all entered his nose. It was as if this was really the real world and not some fake senses sent into his brain.

"Unbelievable," he mumbled.

Opening his eyes, the 'graphics' came into view. The dirt, the tree, the sky, the background, they were so real that it can no longer be called 'graphics'.

The place was also extremely crowded with thousands of people trying to get to their place. Luckily this beginners village was extremely large, fitting so many people here. But with 500 million players, there is bound to be thousands of new players entering every hour, so how was it possible that there were so few people here?

Maybe there are different starting points, and this just happened to be the one he landed it.

"Truly unbelievable," he mumbled again.

Squatting down, he touched the dirt and rubbed it around with his finger.

"..."

He silently looked at the dirt stuck onto his hand like real dirt.

A frown slowly appeared on his face, and he did something the next second that caused many people there to look at him wondering if he was retarded.

He was punching himself at different locations on his body, mostly vital spots.

"Fuck…"

Pain, it was real pain. It was as if he had actually punched himself in the real world.

"This world… is truly inconceivable. Can this even be called technology anymore?

His hearing, sights, touch, smell, and even the taste of the dust in the air could be tasted. All of human's five senses worked in here, and so much so that he would not be surprised if someone had told him that this was the real world.

After sorting out his mind, he began walking towards a random shop. Each of his steps had weight, it was as if his real body was here.

And while there were thousands of people around him, he had managed to arrive at this store that sold raw meat without bumping into anybody.

"Excuse me, can you tell me the purpose of this world? What am I doing here? What is there to do here? Why are you here?" he asked the butcher weird questions.

The butcher looked at him with a seemingly surprised expression.

A weird smile hung on the butcher's face, "The purpose of this world is what you make of it. Your reasons for being here is none of my concerns. There is everything and nothing to do here. I am here because of you."

Xiao Yun did not instantly reply and pondered for a moment. Was this butcher standing before him an NPC?

"Okay, thank you. Do you know where I can get some weapons?"

"Weapons? I actually happen to have a spare dagger. Do you want it?"

"What do you want in return for that dagger?"

Xiao Yun knew that nothing in this world was truly for free, and if this VRMMO was made to feel like the real world, then it should have the same concept.

The butcher smiled at his question, "Go slay five White Rabbits and bring their bodies back to me."

A transparent screen appeared in front of Xiao Yun.

[Quest received: Slay five White Rabbits and return to Butcher Kain with their body.]

[Rewards: Bronze Dagger x1]

After reading the contents, Xiao Yun nodded, "Okay, I will do it. Where can I find these White Rabbits?" he asked.

Butcher Kain pointed towards the northern gate.

"Thank you, I will be right back."

Xiao Yun turned around to walk away.

"Wait."

Butcher Kain stopped him.

"What is it?"

"What is your name?"

"Soarra."

Xiao Yun introduced himself before walking away.

Butcher Kain watched him walk away with a mysterious smile. An interesting player has shown up.
