Damn Bridge!

Well, realistically, the person over there couldn't possibly be her because she was herself. It was just a person who looked like her, very much like her or her younger self at least. With features that she saw in the mirror everyday, the girl looked exactly the way Ming Yun had when she started high school at thirteen.

However, although the features were the same, the aura and bearing were completely different.

While Ming Yun would give people the impression of being a languid and lazy predatory feline, the girl over there was like a docile bunny; those were two words that had never been associated with Chen Ming Yun in her twenty six years of life. Ever!

As Chen Ming Yun was observing the girl, the girl had also been observing her; but even as they got closer to each other since Ming Yun's legs were no longer listening to her and wouldn't stop moving forward, she couldn't feel any hostility or bad intentions from the girl and in her clear black diamond like eyes there was nothing more than innocent curiosity.

Twenty steps until they reached each other.

Nineteen steps until they reached each other.

Eighteen steps...

Seventeen steps...

Sixteen...

....

Three...

Two...

One... They passed right by each other.

Two pairs of identical diamond black eyes met and the girl smiled as she said something but Ming Yun didn't hear a word of it despite them being so close. She was only able to read the last few words off her lips before they completely passed each other by.

"Wait!"

Ming Yun wanted to reach out and grab the girl, but just like earlier with her spirit power, it was like she was in a glass box and her hand felt as though it had hit a wall.

"Hey, wait!"

She wanted to turn around, but no matter what she did, her feet just kept moving forward without any regard to her wants.

Glancing over her shoulder, Ming Yun saw that the girl's figure was already beginning to disappear into the mist and she felt a bout of frustration descend on her. She stomped her feet.

"Argh! This damn bridge! Fuck your sister!"

As she stomped on the bridge, the ground beneath suddenly began to shake and Ming Yun heard a distant rumbling.

This... it couldn't possibly--

Before she could even finish her thought, the white stones under her suddenly gave way and Ming Yun fell through.

She didn't scream. She would not allow herself to scream! If Chen Ming Feng, that brat ever found out that she had screamed a frightened, girly scream in her life he would never let her off so she did not scream!

With her teeth clenched tightly and eyes closed, Ming Yun felt herself fall down-- down and down, much like when she had fallen from the building before and she suddenly had the thought that maybe she had somehow broken whatever array she had entered and returned to falling to her death from the research building's roof.

Eager to confirm her speculation, Ming Yun opened her eyes only to feel herself suddenly suspended and when she opened her eyes to find herself in the arms of a big man she had never seen before, dressed in ancient armor, his face full of tears, she didn't know what else to do but slowly close her eyes again and pretend to have fallen asleep, but someone wouldn't let her.

"Ming Yun, Ming Yun! Ming Yun open your eyes again and look at daddy!"

Daddy?! Now there was a word she had absolutely never said in her life.

"Ming Yun, stay strong for daddy, please. You can't die, daddy will go beg the emperor to send the imperial physician, so please hold on."

Woah, woah, woah, wait! Hold up!

Emperor? Imperial physician? What was this old man talking about?

In the next moment, all too suddenly when she least expected it, an intense barrage of images flooded Ming Yun's mind causing her temples to throb painfully. She couldn't help the groan that escaped her as she gritted her teeth.

She would not scream, would not scream, would not scream! But god she wanted to scream!

In the midst of enduring, Ming Yun suddenly felt something warm seeping out from her eyes.

Wait, was she crying?!

No, no, no! She, Chen Ming Yun, did not cry. She was not a crier okay! She would rather scream like a little girl before she cried.

Reaching up to wipe her face, Ming Yun felt that the substance on her fingers was sticky, very much unlike tears and there was also a familiar fishy scent invading her nose. This scent, Ming Yun was very familiar with it.

"Blood?"

Looking at the bright red substance on her fingers through her red tinted vision, Chen Ming Yun shuddered. She was crying tears of blood.

By now the images racing through her mind had stopped and Chen Ming Yun was able to understand her situation.

Indeed, she had succeeded in dying when she fell from the medical and research building but now she was reborn, well, transmigration would be a better word for it.

She had crossed worlds and the body she was occupying belonged to the girl she had seen back on the bridge in the world of mist; the Di Young Miss of the Chen General estate in the Dong Chen Kingdom whose name was also Chen Ming Yun.

From a very young age, 'Chen Ming Yun' was afflicted with a never before seen illness that caused her to have weak muscles to the point that she could not walk or even do most things on her own and she often bled out of her ears, nose and eyes.

Because she was General Chen's only child, he had searched far and wide for a method to cure her, but even after going to the renowned Blue Lotus Sect known all across the Sky Dragon Continent for being the best in medicine, 'Ming Yun' could still not be cured.

Several days ago, 'Chen Ming Yun' had caught a cold and although she was given medicine and put to bed on time, her health still continued to deteriorate greatly and her pulse weakened by the day. Madam Chen immediately sent word to the General who was guarding the North border and he rushed back day and night to the capital only to arrive just as his daughter took her last breath. He had just been hugging her still corpse when Chen Ming Yun arrived.

Seeing the eyes of the beloved child he had just thought to be dead open, General Chen, Chen Huang Yi couldn't stay calm. He wanted to immediately rush to the palace and beg the emperor to send over Imperial Doctor Wei in the hopes that Ming Yun's life could be saved, but the little girl in his arms suddenly reached up to hug his neck.

"Daddy, don't go. Stay with Ming Yun."

Although Chen Huang Yi was very happy, happy that his daughter was alive and happy that she wanted him to stay, he was worried about her and still wanted to go to the palace to request for Doctor Wei.

"Yun'er, be a good girl. Daddy won't be gone long."

"No! Daddy just came back from the border, don't leave so soon. When will I see you again if you leave now? Ming Yun promises that she is fine, so daddy, don't go!"

Chen Ming Yun would not allow Chen Huang Yi to go to the palace. She had fully inherited 'Chen Ming Yun's' memories and she knew that this father of hers had been stationed at the Northern border by the emperor.

The Chen family had been a military family for generations and their family register was much shorter than most other noble families, having no more than one or two sons in every generation. If you looked at it like that, then the Chen family could be said to be very loyal, risking their already sparse bloodline on the battlefield in every generation.

However, over generations of fighting on the battlefield, the Chen family would have obviously built up an army of their own and under the leadership on the Chen Family Heads of every generation who were naturally gifted in war, they grew to be a fierce legion that could rival the imperial guard legion.

The northern border of the Dong Chen Kingdom was shared with the hostile Taban Nation and although the situation had been calm as of late years, it was unknown when the Tabans would attack so the Chen family's Sanguine Legion was stationed there by the previous emperor who had trust in the Chen family however, the current emperor was not as trusting and probably felt that having Chen Huang Yi in the capital was akin to having a sword suspended above his head on a daily basis and so ordered the Chen General to accompany his legion to the border while the only remaining blood of the Chen family, Chen Ming Yun was kept as a figurative 'hostage' within the capital to ensure their loyalty and obedience.

That Chen Huang Yi had returned to the capital without being summoned or first asking for permission from the emperor, it could be seen as treason and if he were to suddenly rush to the palace still dressed in armor and carrying blade as he was, wouldn't that paranoid emperor probably feel that he was trying to rebel and end him? It was possible and Chen Ming Yun did not want to take the chance.

At that time on the bridge in the world of mist, Chen Ming Yun had not heard what this General's Young Miss had said to her, but she had read the last few words off of her lips.

"... take care of them."

At that time she was confused, but if she still did not understand by now, she would be an idiot. But then, that led her to wonder, had the original 'Chen Ming Yun' somehow known that she was going to end up in her body? And if she had ended up in 'Chen Ming Yun's ' body, then had 'Chen Ming Yun' ended up in her own body, splattered on the sidewalk back in the twenty fifth century?

Ugh! That was a gruesome thought.

Chen Ming Yun shuddered then she felt that she was suddenly enveloped in something warm. Looking up, she saw that Chen Huang Yi had wrapped her in his cloak.

"Are you cold?"

By now, Chen Huang Yi had calmed down a little. Ming Yun said that she was fine and she certainly looked better than before and although he didn't think that his little daughter could possibly have such profound thoughts, he was able to derive certain messages from her words; he decided against rushing to the palace.

"Don't worry Ming Yun, daddy will stay with you."

Feeling a soft, warm touch against her forehead, Chen Ming Yun froze, then she looked at Chen Huang Yi who had just kissed her with round eyes before she smiled shyly and gently buried her face in his wide chest.

This feeling of having a sweet and doting 'daddy', really wasn't half bad; the father from her last life was absolute trash.

Thinking of her last life, Chen Ming Yun inadvertently thought of her only true family from back then, her little brother, Chen Ming Feng but then she shook her head to clear those dark and depressing thoughts.

She was no longer in the twenty fifth century and the 'Chen Family' that she had known was left far behind, they had no ties now. She was now no longer the Godly Doctor, Chen Ming Yun but Chen Ming Yun, the young miss of the Chen General estate.

Though unconventional, she had managed to snag a second life, and it looked to be a sweet one, so she would live it well, peacefully.

Setting Ming Yun down on the bed, Chen Huang Yi turned to one of the wide eyes maids who had been stunned silly from seeing their young miss come back from the dead and ordered them to call for the family doctor in the next cortyard.

It was barely fifteen minutes later that a middle aged man in a jade green qipao came rushing into the room with complete and utter disbelief on his face and as he saw Chen Ming Yun sitting up in bed it was quickly followed by relief and joy as he came forward to check her pulse.

Seeing the people entering the room, Chen Ming Yun couldn't help but stare as her mouth fell open and she suddenly felt that maybe she was hallucinating. Because, right there, behind the old Doctor Zhang, wasn't that Chen Ming Feng?!
