Arriving at the test grounds after much difficulty, Brian and Caesar felt quite uncomfortable. Why? Well, for one, there was a lot of people. A LOT OF PEOPLE. You basically couldn't move around unless you tried to force your way through. And if you did that, you would knock over the guy next to you, who would then cause a chain reaction. The multitude of dominoes were very surprising for these two country bumpkins.
You had to know that Caesar, despite growing up as prince, was only a prince of a small world, and there markets weren't close to as crowded as this. The two of them found a vantage point slightly above the flow of people and decided to ascertain their position.
They had just climbed onto the rock that they had decided upon being their vantage point when a voice sounded behind them.
"Hi, how are you? My name is Daisuke Mei. Nice to meet you." This voice was very clear and made one feel relaxed.
Turning around to look, Brian and Caesar found their mysterious voice.
Standing at around 2m, a giant was looming over them. They had gotten quite a scare but as they focused in on the details, there stress lessened. This giant of a man had quite a well proportioned-body, if you can believe that. Despite his massive figure, his shoulder width and sheer amount of muscle easily made him look normal at a distance. Only when up close would one realize that standing before them was a 2m high person.
The man had black eyes. Like, jet black. If one looked into them, one would feel a sense of loss and insecurity. Along with his black hair, yellow skin, and name he had just given, he was obviously a man from Japan.
Japan was still that island country it was before the Days of Depression, but it had actually fought against the flow of World Energy. Japan had discovered a pocket of World Energy just to their East, in the ocean, and had utilized it.
Contrary to what other's did, namely use it for military, residential, and experimental purposes, Japan had dumped all their resources in an economic direction. this was a big risk, a make or break moment for the country, but it paid off. They found out how to control the entry and exit points of the worlds, and gave it to NWC, for a cost. They would receive a steady flow of World Energy and also a crap ton of money.
This allowed Japan to further develop their economy and become a global superpower. there was a saying that got viral a couple of years ago: If we let Japan's economy crash, we let ourselves commit seppuku. -By the way, for those who don't know, seppuku is a suicide ritual that used to be done by the Japanese-.
What surprised Brian more than the fact that this hulk of a man was looming behind him was that this giant could speak fluent English.
Daisuke seemed to notice what Brian was thinking and explained hurriedly. "Haha, I'm from a noble family, the Mei family, and I learnt how to speak 5 languages as a child."
This made more sense. Nobles and their children would all learn several languages as this world was in a stage of competition and any skill that could be learnt was important.
And so after figuring this out, Brian replied for the both of them.
"Hi, Daisuke. I'm Brian Wolf, and this is Caesar McDonald. Hope we can be friends!" Brian had always knew Caesar's last name, but had never used it before, making it feel very weird for him.
The three of them started conversing about random stuff and found that they had a lot in common. The pair found out that Daisuke was probably one of the strongest students applying for the Academy, and Daisuke felt the same for the two he had just met.
Seeing two of them were nobility, and Brian having lived through the life of one, the three knew almost immediately that they had found a trustworthy ally and friend.
---
After a while talking, the three finally reverted back to their purpose for coming here in the first place, the test to get into the Academy.
"So, how do you think you'll go?" asked Daisuke.
"Honestly, we do not have the slightest clue." This was Brian's truthful answer, as he honestly did not even know what the test was.
"You serious? Most of the candidates, like me, spend their life preparing for it, and you just waltz in. Dang, I'm jealous of that free lifestyle you lead. Let me fill you in.
The test is split into two sections.
First up is your skill test. This is basically to check your understanding of your skill. Just so you know, my understanding just reached the Amazing level, and can be considered the best in this aspect. Of course, you will be made to sign a soul contract. Soul contracts do what their name suggests. They bind your soul.
These scrolls are really horrifying as you must complete what the contract says. You naturally can disobey, but then you will die on the spot. And not just die, but horrifyingly get burnt alive. Through World Energy, we discovered that Heaven and Hell do exist, but not that clearly. All we know is that if you disobey a soul contract, then you get sent to Hell, or something like that.
Naturally we got this knowledge from entering Hell. One day an envoy came to the capital of the world, Brisbane. This envoy introduced himself as Lucifer's underling, making us assume he was one of the devil's subordinates. He presented us with this contract and how to use it. The only instruction he left was to pass it around. He said he would await the sacrifices they received. Brrrrr, just thinking about it gives me the chills. Let us get off this morbid topic.
The second test is the points test. Fighting is the only way to display your strength. Of course, that is only if you're signing up for the fighting course. You are right?"
Seeing Brian and Caesar's bobbing heads, he merrily continued.
"Oh good. Yeah, anyway, we will duel each other and only the top 100 will be let into the first court, basically where the Oxford campus used to be located. The first court is only for the genius of geniuses, namely me. And same same for the rest, 100 per court. There are only 5 courts, by the way, since one per founding school. Oh, you don't know? Two other famous schools, I forgot their names, also joined in on the deal partway through their development of the massive campus.
It may seem like a lot of people will get in, but do you not see this massive amount of people here.
Ahhh, I have spoken so much. I need to go take a drink. See you in court 1."
And with that, their new-found friend rushed off to quench his thirst while Brian and Caesar were still thinking one thing.
"So many opportunities!"
