After many candidates for the female lead finished their audition, it was finally Lyn's turn. Many people had different views of her. Some think that if even the 3Js failed, Lyn would definitely have no chance. There are also others that suspected that there is something going on between Lyn and Devon, considering that besides being desk mates, they had a lot in common; they both tell Greggy they liked something about her, got into detention together etc. Hence, they think that Lyn will have the most chemistry with Devon. Due to the differing opinions and that the probability of her getting the female lead is unknown, many people were excited to watch her audition as they wanted to see Lyn's capabilities and know if their predictions were right or wrong.
Meanwhile, Lyn herself was conflicted on whether to do her best for the audition or fail deliberately. She knew that with her capabilities, she could get the female role easily if she wanted.
But, she already chose to erase his memories of her and decided to use whatever means she could to change seats next term, throwing away whatever chance they have to interact with each other so she thought that why not just fail deliberately so that they won't meet anymore?
It's not that Lyn really don't wanna meet him, but that she's afraid that the more they interact, the more hurt she will bring to herself. They say 'time heals all wounds' so she thought that by hurting herself now before they get deeper into the relationship, not only will the pain inflicted be lesser, she would also take less time to heal.
However, upon seeing that everyone else acted terribly as the protagonist, she felt the urge to do her best. After all, the plot of this play was mostly thought of by her so its kinda right to say that she owned this play and hence she wanted the play to be the best. To add on, now that she's a stranger to Devon, the only interactions that they'll get is when they are acting..right?
After contemplating, Lyn decided to just do her best in the audition.
"ready?"
Lyn nodded without hesitation.
"Okay three.."
"two.."
"one.."
"Acti-"
"Wait!" Devon interrupted, causing everyone to stop and stare at him in bewilderment.
"I think..there's no point trying. Clearly my presence makes everyone uncomfortable, even me. So, I volunteer to quit my role.. " Devon said without any emotions, making people feel uncomfortable as they guessed if he is truly uncomfortable acting or that he feels that he is making everyone uncomfortable.
Upon hearing this, the girls that had auditioned felt guilty and ashamed of themselves as what Devon said was true, but they did not want him to quit so that they will find it easier to act. After all, it is their fault for getting into the role half-heartedly to achieve their inner desires of getting noticed by Devon. Moreover, it is a shame that he leaves for there will be even lesser chance to just get a glimpse of his face. Yet, they are helpless and don't know what to say to change his mind. Nonetheless, even if Devon was to give up his role, they will only let him after satisfying their curiosity to their speculations of the outcome of Lyn's audition.
"We're starting in 3 seconds.." Mr Zin informed Lyn after calming down from the sudden announcement from Devon.
Before saying her lines, Lyn immersed herself into the feeling of being so deep in love with Devon that no matter what wrongs Devon does, she will still believe that he's right, which conveys the saying that 'love is blind' clearly. She then maintained the infatuated gaze and looked into Devon's eyes while shouting
"I'm a crazy lunatic that's in love with Devon!"
"Cut! Lyn, well done!" Mr Zin exclaimed, pleasantly surprised. He had almost given up on auditioning the girls and even considered replacing Devon like he wished. Yet, the fading glimmer of hope rose from the ground to the skies again, leaving everyone surprised and see Lyn in a new light.
"Uhh thanks.." Lyn said awkwardly. She could feel many pairs of eyes staring at her, watching her every move and action. This made her feel like a celebrity without an assistant or manager vs a bunch of reporters - Ex. Treme. Ly Un. Com. Fort. A. Ble.
"Wow! I thought she is only weird and have an obsession for hair. Who knew that she would be the only girl that could continue acting despite making eye-contact with Devon?"
"Omg am I dreaming? There's someone that could actually succeed this without breaking a sweat? Oh my.."
"She's became the female lead right? This mean..Devon won't quit!!! OMG I'm so happy!"
"I knew it! These two must be dating or something or else how could Lyn be the only one that could handle Devon's intense stare without screwing up her lines? Moreover they sit together every day! Their relationship is bound to be close!"
...
After the audition, Lyn tried to escape home as fast as possible. Actually, Devon's intense stare was quite intimidating but not sure if its because she could endure well or that she's already used to it, no one besides her knew that she was actually super scared, awkward internally as she hid her true feelings well. Not to mention, the crowd's reaction amplified Lyn's uncomfortable feelings, as she really hates being in the limelight. She felt sooo uncomfortable that she almost showed her feelings despite being someone that is able to hide her feelings well.
Yet for some reason, Lyn felt that part of her, just a small part, felt excited and happy to see Devon even though it's just his icy cold face.
Ahh stop! I need to stop thinking about him again!
