Erika's Guide to Alterai: Races, Classes, and Level Limits

In the world of Alterai, there are five major races:

First is the Humans, the most commonplace race in the world. They populate over seventy percent of Alterai, based around the centre of the map. The most Human dominated countries are Beglines, Albionis, Wolftan, and Steunvik. The Humans have a superiority complex toward other races, who they refer to as lesser beings. Some even go as far as Demi-Human slavery and segregation, though not all Humans are like this. In terms of classes, they follow three core classes that evolve into superior classes. Warriors go for a combat-based build with their skills and have the highest vitality and endurance of the three classes. They evolve into Fighters, who have a superior attack power in order to beat back threats. From there, Fighters evolve into Knights, who have two sub-classes. The Holy Knight; who has extremely high defence and vitality, and the Death Knight; whose attack power and strength exceed normal limits. Mages have the highest attack power and magic affinity of the three classes. They evolve into Wizards, who have superior intelligence compared to other classes. After that, they become one of three sub-classes. The Magus is a perfect blend of attack power and intelligence, able to use magic along with combat skills. The Arch-Mage has attack power beyond even Daemons, and finally is the Shadow-Claw; whose speed allows them to cast spells quicker than anyone else. Thieves are the fastest of the three classes, and the most common class of them all. They evolve into Rogues, who have table-turning stealth abilities and superior intelligence. From there, they will become one of two sub-classes. The Shadow has stealth capabilities that exceed even Elves, along with speed that is seconded only by Vampires. The Master has snake-like cunning and intelligence that rivals most scholars, allowing for easy persuasion. Humans have a level-limit of sixty, which makes rising beyond most races difficult, but they are the most versatile in terms of their classes.

The second major race in Alterai is the Elves, who live to the north, in a magical forest. They had been at war with the Humans for years, but the alliance with Beglines had put it to an end. The centre of their civilisation is the realm of Nytal Esari. It is here that the Elven Queen; Lady Darshee Olawynn Eilmys, rules over the entire northern domain. The Elves, unlike the Humans, have no problems with non-humans. They are welcomed in all of the Elven cities. Elves have two core classes which they identify by. Rangers have amazing perception and speed, always at the ready to defend the Northern Realm from attackers. They evolve into Guardians, who have high attack power, allowing them to wield melee weapons with no problems, they normally serve as royal guards. From there, a Guardian can become a Forráðamaðurinn, whose speed and stealth work perfectly with high attack power and defences. Druids have a high magic affinity and most commonly follow the Invidia magic tree. They become Watchers after learning all Druid techniques, giving them a high intelligence and defence. From there, they will become Masters of the Forest, who have a good blend of intelligence and magic power to shield the Northern Realm from evil spirits. The level limit of an Elf is level eighty, meaning that they can surpass Humans and Demi-Humans.

The third major race in Alterai is the Undead. They don't have a set nation, but instead wander all the countries except for the Northern Realm. They range from the extremely weak Skeletons to the immortal Vampires. There are four base classes for the Undead. Skeletons have relatively balanced stats, this is because they tend to inherit from when they were alive. They can evolve into Skeleton Warriors, who have a boost to attack power but are still relatively weak. From there, they can very rarely become a Bone Lord, who has stats that match a Human Knight, and are very dangerous. Zombies are stronger than most Humans and have an immortal vitality, though they are a bit on the slow side. They can evolve into Lichs after regaining their memories, giving them Human-like intelligence and sometimes a large magical affinity. After that comes a Lich Lord, who has power over all weak Undead and can sometimes raise armies of them to attack, though they only come about once every thousand years. Ghosts are a type of Undead that are generally quite pointless, in most cases, they just wander about and do nothing. There are some cases of powerful Ghosts, known as Phantoms. These Phantoms are able to touch the physical world directly and so can cause many problems for travellers and adventurers. Finally, the most powerful type of Undead is the Vampire. They begin as Thralls, with little to no self control and near limitless strength. If left unchecked, they will become a Feral and start attacking anyone who crosses their path, man or monster. If, however, they drink the blood of another Vampire, they will gain their control back, becoming a Vampire themselves. A Vampire has unbeatable speed and god-like strength, making even the weakest Vampire a deadly threat. At the top is a being known as the . It is a bloodline of Vampires that have transcended even the Gods, under no circumstances is any adventurer to attack them. Their speed and power is near endless and it grows stronger with each generation, it was the Vampirkönig that was responsible for the annihilation of the entire Witch Clan five-hundred years ago. The level limit of an Undead is limitless, they can only keep going up since they aren't mortal.

The fourth major race in Alterai is the Daemons. They used to be the rulers of Aglia, before it was taken from them and renamed Steunvik by the Hero, Rin Akuru. They are ruled over by the Demon King, a being that reincarnates itself after death. There have been ten Demon Kings since the first Daemon, Lukaefer. The strongest of which was Hikage, the eighth Demon King, who took over all the surrounding lands and brought Aglia to its knees. There are three main classes of Daemon. Low-Tier Daemons are capable of high combat ability, and are a match for middle level Warriors. Middle-Tier Daemons are capable of combat and have some magical affinity. High-Tier Daemons are capable of fighting top level Knights, and have high magical affinity, they are also the only Daemons capable of evolution. They can become Arch-Lords, who can raise entire armies of Daemons to support the Demon King's summoned creatures. The Demon King can select certain creatures to become Arch-Daemons: A Knight Lord, a Magus Lord, and a Shadow Lord. These Arch-Daemons are powerful and not even top level Knights can kill them. There is no level limit on the immortal Daemons, they can become as powerful as Vampires if they want to.

Finally, the fifth major race of Alterai: The Drachkin. Dragons that are capable of taking human form. They are the most powerful race in Alterai, dominating both sky and earth with their god-like ability. The Drachkin are ruled by the Drachenkönig, the strongest Drachkin who is selected every hundred years by a tournament of honour known as The Calling. The Drachkin are divided into five classes that represent the five elements. Lebensdrache Drachkin use the powers of the forests to protect their allies and trap enemies. Wasserdrache Drachkin use the power of the seas to destroy everything in their path, flooding entire cities. Drachenarmagedon Drachkin annihilate all in their way with eternal flames. Winddrache Drachkin control the very air around them, shattering fortresses and mountains alike with hurricanes. Schwarzer Tod Drachkin are the rarest type of Drachkin, controlling death itself, reversing it and bringing it to others in the form of plagues. The current Drachenkönig is Silvia Fafnir Melusine, a level two-hundred and ninety Wasserdrache, though her rare showings of power hint at a Schwarzer Tod. She has remained the leader for five hundred years, having won The Calling five times with much competition, but her vocal communication isn't the best, being only able to say two syllables at one time. The home of the Drachkin is the mountains in Wolftan, known as the Dragon Peaks.

There are many other races, including Witches and Beast-kin, but these are the five main races that dominate Alterai's landscape.
