The Head Elder

Looking at the design and construction of wooden hut, red patterns on the long skirt of the female, the jute dress that they made him wear when he was unconscious, the way they looked at Tinum and the way in which the both male and female followed the instructions of the village head elder 'Hason Soma', June had understood a lot about their tribe.

Like their hierarchy, culture, arts and crafts, their attitude with the outsiders and even a little bit about their superstitious believes.

June and that head elder communicated for almost an hour.

In the beginning June was completely unable to understand the language used by the elderly man, but to his surprise within half an hour, June was able to understand the basic meaning of the words and within an hour he could communicate fluently with the elder on equal level.

When they finally stopped chatting, the old face of the village head elder Hason Soma had turned so red that it almost looked like a ripped tomato.

"Did my learning just increased or is their language just that easy?" June wondered in his mind.

At the beginning he did not realize but as the conversation went on, slowly he noticed that he could understand the basic flow of conversation, like when to respond, when to stay quiet, arranging his answers in such a timing so as to control the whole emotional fluctuations of the listener, and also manipulating his own expressions by noticing the tiny changes in the method of speaking of the other person in order to reduce the tension in the air.

June knew that he never had such good communication skills before. He could guess that something inside him has fundamentally changed after he woke up from that dream, but he could not put his finger on the exact change that took place in him.

During the chat session, June spoke just about ten percent of the total words that were used in the conversation. The rest was carried out by the excited village head elder. It looked like the head elder of Soma village was very interested in knowing more about June.

Still, during the conversation June had acquired most of the necessary information that he required without making the village head elder uncomfortable in any way.

During this one hour of continuous talking, although June did not miss the signs of amazement on the face of the elder, but what can he say after all he was equally surprised from the fact.

The place that he is currently in, is known as "Soma". It is a small village located in between the hills just one or two kilometers away from the water pond where he had fainted.

The name of the elderly was 'Hason Soma' and it was his elder daughter who had seen him when he was bathing in the waterfall. She was the one who wore long skirt with red pattern on it.

Hason Soma was the 'head elder' of the village and the name of his daughter was 'Nisa Soma'.

She was married to the tough looking man in the brown animal hide, whose name was 'Maka Soma'.

Maka Soma is the 'leader' of the 'Soma' village.

Hason Soma had two daughters, the elder one was 'Nisa' whereas the smaller one was 'Misa soma' and both of them had seen June when he was in the water fall.

The most awkward moment was when the village head elder told him that the red fruit was poisonous. At that time June almost fell from the place where he was sitting, but he did not let any expression come to the surface of his face during the conversation time.

Also, during the whole conversation June let the Tinum sit on his shoulder. This was also having its desired effects which were calculated by the June when the head elder told him about the poisonous nature of the red fruits.

Unlike people living in cities and towns, tribal folks spend most of their time with nature that included wild animals. This slowly creates a feeling of respect and also fear for the wild life in their hearts, and this was not too difficult for June to understand.

So, from his actions June could see that the village elder who had spent most of his life in this village obviously knew about the dozens of silver eyed green snakes that lived on the tree with poisonous red fruits, and the village head elder also understood that not everyone can gain the trust of those green snakes.
