Chapter 9 : Human Nature

Besides the light bulbs, Wan installed several sticky emergency lights all around the perimeter of his so called "tree house". The Emergency lights were also solar powered and would only light up when the surrounding is dark enough. The lights were installed all high up the trees by scratching a flat surface on some tree barks and sticking it.

After he installed the last light. All of them gradually lit up one by was as he noticed that the sun has set already.

The entire surrounding was bright and if one would look around, the atmosphere looks like the place have a military secret base covered with spot lights to prevent anyone from sneaking in. It has that sort of vibe.

"Looks creepy, I can just re position the other lights tomorrow. For now, I'll just eat first."

Outside the tree house, Wan lit up the fire, set up his grill and made his own 1 man barbecue party.

"Beer would be good but this place is dangerous and if there is something here, I would die from being drunk."

After eating his barbecue till he's full, Wan surveyed the surroundings outside and found nothing.

He had nothing else to do so he set up his 54 inches flat screen LCD TV as a monitor for his laptop.

"I downloaded every sorts of movies and series up to now. I even downloaded documentaries, short stories and all sorts of online instructional videos.

Anime and movies are also included, I almost filled up 12 external hard drives worth of movies. Now, what to watch?"

One could only know how many have been stored by his hard drives and Wan didn't even know what all that he has downloaded there.

Wan decided to watch a series with a remote control in his left hand and a small grenade on his right hand.

After watching around 4 episodes, Wan fell asleep and he forgot to turn off the TV.

Wan passed off his first day in the other world and it was quite a long and tiring day for him.

--

Morning came and Wan woke up. After gaining his consciousness, Wan recognized that the TV is still playing something.

"I don't have any of those alarms or infrared detector but maybe keeping the TV on unintentionally protected me from what so ever is there. Animals would think that people were still awake due to the noise it makes, such is their nature to be cautious. Well that is if there's really something near me, that would be the case."

Wan tidied up his bed before turning off the TV and his laptop.

"I should take out the other items from the inventory and use them."

Wan took out some items like a dress cabinet, portable sink, portable bathroom, kitchen materials and other housing tools. After just taking them out and thinking where to put them to use, Wan felt hungry.

Wan remembered that he has leftover food yesterday and ate them.

"Oh right, I also got this cultured mushroom farm that I forgot yesterday. I also need to set up where am I going to grow this. Mushrooms are always good for barbecue anyway."

After eating, Wan then again got the urge to scout the whole forest he was in. He hadn't found any human dwelling yet because he prioritized getting a shelter which is the tree where he is right now.

"A day had just past and I already miss people. I may have few friends but having few is better than having none.

I have only seen a single monster until now but that single monster can eat a 10 or even 20 of me with a single bite."

As day has just passed but Wan couldn't get rid of his feeling of being alone in a different world. He didn't know if it was because of the monster, or he was simply lonely being alone.

According to the guides that he had read, having more than one dwelling is essential when traveling alone in a forest. It is a common etiquette among hunters to fill up the dwellings with enough firewood and even some necessities after using them just in case they found someones else place.

"But that only applies on people without a spy drone."

Wan just wanted to find some other possible houses like his dwelling in case some animals found it out and those animals decided to camp on him.

After the battery of the drone was recharged, Wan scouted the other parts of the forest and compiled them for him to create an eagle's eye view of the forest.

At first, he was reluctant to fly his drone because it might attract the attention of that big eagle. But that didn't stop him. Right now, he gained confidence that if that eagle found his place, the one that should be scared was not him.

When the drone reached the end of the clearing that he saw yesterday, Wan saw a forest on the farthermost left area of the drone's camera. He shouldn't have noticed the forest faraway because the camera focused on the forest he was in, but the smoke rising from there caught up his attention from the camera.

"There's no smoke without fire and there's no fire without people. Or is it people really? I need to see them but Maybe I should prepare for the worst, just in case."

Now that he was in the other world with the experience of life and death encounter, Wan concluded that he need to seek a civilization.

He postponed his plan to create a second dwelling and decided to seek civilization first.

Also, he wanted to make exchanges to the residents of this world because his supplies were not infinite.

He may have brought an entire truck with him but he didn't know when he could return or if he could even return in the first place.

As an avid reader of novels where plenty of dark human nature are being exposed in every book, Wan is not some naive boy who would bring himself to ruin just by trusting people. He knew that fact too well even in his own world.

He even emphasized on the guide that he created that if the reader encountered dangerous creatures such as snakes, dragons or even demons, they should not fear them the most because it is humanity's greed which is so far the scariest.

For example, when a group of people encountered a dragon, those people might use others as an attraction or sacrifice just for them to be able to run and save their asses.

There could be even a part where one would actively trick other people as a living bait for monsters for them to ensure safety when things went a little bit dangerous.

it could alse be that when a group of people found a treasure, a single person could cause a whole team to be wiped out just because he wanted the spoils for himself.

He described plenty occurrences where it showed how scary humans could be. He didn't discourage them from making contact.

Of course while all his knowledge came mainly from books and movies he still understood that these knowledge are specially useful now that he was in the other world.
