A Steal.

Marcus walked forward towards the city hoping the fighting would've dissipated by now. He was in desperate need of a weapon and was sort of praying he'd find a dead carcass he could take a knife from.

He sorts of vaguely remembered playing a game like this in his other life. It even had a port that looked exactly like the beginner's port he was heading to, and had a few of the same animals jumping through the bushes.

One of the most recognizable he saw was some leopard jack rabbits. Part of him wanted to slay them to see if he'd get experience like in the game. Yet, he was too tired to try and catch them, let alone beat them with a stick.

However, he couldn't really remember the name of this world or anything important that could help him. He just knew that he should stay away from the sounds of cannons and marching feet.

In roughly twenty minutes, after basically crawling away from shadows that looked to be killing each other. He ended up near the edge of the forest and saw the city gates open with no one guarding them.

"Hey, uhm, do I happen to have the ability to detect enemies?"

[Ding! Correct! Would you like system to activate this feature?]

"Yes…."

Marcus couldn't believe he had to activate it. What if he didn't ask?

[Ding! Detection has been activated. There are currently no enemies in your area.]

Marcus sighed as he scrambled out of the trees and ran towards the entrance to the port. The walls were lavishly decorated, yet there were fires still burning and dead bodies littered across the field. It seemed that whomever won had decided to go in the city. There wasn't even a town guard that he suspected would be by the door.

In just a few minutes, he made his way over countless dead bodies and entered the gates of the city. There were currently carcasses near the entrance as well, and pretty much everyone seemed dead everywhere he looked.

The only ones who seemed spared were the women, children, and merchants. However, most of them were crying, so he didn't feel talking to them was the best move.

Regardless, he was starting to get a feeling like this really was that game he could only vaguely remember. He walked towards the market sign hoping to finally get a dual dagger set, or even some food. After stepping over a few more cadavers, and making his way across a fire filled alley, he ended up in front of a doorway with two crossed swords.

"Come in! Come in!" A chubby man said beaming with a smile.

Marcus nodded before he walked in. "You wouldn't happen to have any daggers, would you?"

"Ah, daggers! I have a couple steel daggers here. Unfortunately, all my best weapons were taken by the raiders."

"Can you show me?" Marcus said as he walked in past the entranceway. He walked over towards the glass case where the man was standing and sighed looking at the inventory.

However, then he remembered he was a thief. It wasn't very complicated to steal when you had twelve agility points. He immediately walked towards the man and stumbled towards his pocket.

"Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to fall into you," Marcus said with a wicked smile on his face.

[Ding! You've activated steal and acquired steel dagger x 2]

[Weapons have been stored in your inventory]

Marcus backed up with a look of feigned sadness on his face. "I'm sorry for falling into you sir. Could you show me those daggers again?"

The man nodded his head before he put his hands in his pocket. "Ah, those daggers! I was carrying them on me a second ago… At least I thought I was. Give me one moment and I'll go check in the back."

The two ended up separating from each other, and Marcus casually walked over towards the knife sheathes on the wall. After strapping them up he whistled before he walked over towards another wall.

[Ding! Notoriety has increased by -2]

He casually grabbed a few more items off the shelves as he heard the man scrambling in the back to find a few more daggers. He decided to leave all the weapons for warriors, and mages alone. He, after all, was a thief, and had no money on him. He casually waited by the glass case before he decided to scream.

"Thief, Thief, Mister, I'm sorry but someone stole all your stuff!!"

Marcus leaned against the glass casually looking down at one more item. He was starting to remember why this felt so easy for him. In his last life, he was recalling that he spent a lot of time acting, and he had to master the art of portraying many different roles. Hence, he had no problem standing there with a look of sadness in his eyes as he pointed towards the empty display.

"Oh, it must have been those damn Fortuna! They know the merchants are protected by the guilds. However, they still have the nerve to sack the city. I'm sorry, here, let me give you these free throwing knives to make it up to you."

Marcus looked sad, but then quickly reached forward and took them. "I'll come visit you some time soon, Mister. If you happen to have any jobs for me, just let me know."

The man sighed before he dropped down on his seat. Whomever decided to rob him, sure had a good eye. He took the items that were at the 3rd level or higher.

"Ah, maybe if you come back in a week, I'll have a job for you. I would've given you a job now, but I lost the daggers I was hoping to deliver to the resistance."

He pointed over to the box that Marcus had robbed just seconds ago.

"Those daggers were the only weapons in the shop with an attachment. There is a small string on them that took me months to engineer. I'm afraid it will take me a week to make another set."

Marcus walked over to him, and pat him on the back. "Well, it was nice meeting you Frank. I'll be back then."

[Ding! You've acquired one employer Frank! Come back in a week to receive quest.]

Marcus smiled before he walked towards the door. "Well, I'm sorry for your loss. I'm going to be over at the bizarre if you need anything."

The man smiled and waved letting Marcus walk out into the street with all his stuff.

Even Marcus at this point was beginning to feel bad, however, he didn't have the nerve to dare return the items he just took. After all, he might die if he didn't steal items. So, he just made a mental note to help him out with the missions sometime in the future.

'I must've been a really good actor in my last life,' Marcus thought as he walked over towards the armory. Unfortunately, when he got there, a bunch of soldiers were standing by the door. They had blood all over there armors and seemed much stronger then he was. He smiled at them before he twirled the two daggers he had just gotten.

After pulling out the knife satchels, he attached them to the new belt he also took.
