Chapter 45

"Lets play a game, shall we?"

That tone of his sent a shiver down everyone's back.

"As like any games, this one has to have its rules as well." Said Thunder king with a smile on his face.

"The senior mages on your side are barred from participating. We want it to be interesting after all. So it will be down to the four of our young little lambs. "

"I want the four of you to fight."

"Fighting the White brothers would be a little out of your league right now. Plus I wont my competent helpers to be hurt in an accident. "

"Who you will be fighting are the guards we have here."

"There are 20 of them. You need to beat them. But remember you cant kill or severely hurt them. You win if you force them to submit or disarm them."

"The guards win if they can they touch you with their weapons. Dont worry, I dont want you dead yet. You are more valuable to me as a hostage. "

"Lets see how crafty you can get. "

"And as for the reward, the guards get the mage stones in your body if they win. And if you win, you get to the next round. " He said with a grin.

"One special rule as well since we have space mage as well. No gates. If I see one opening, you know lighting wont take much time to travel. "

"Exciting, isnt it? So what are you waiting for. Let it begin."

The guards and the four mages were now facing each other and had the distance of around 50 metres between them.

They faced each other but no one moved.

Nor did Aaron's group or the guard. Aaron and all didn't know what to think of the situation. Was the man really serious? How were they supposed to defeat 20 soldiers if they couldnt hurt them. They didn't have that much of a control over their spells as to not severely hurt someone. The ones they were facing were normal humans who didnt have a way to defend against mages.

The guards were in a conundrum as well. Normal people had a fear of mages. It was a legit fear as well. They had no way of.protecting themselves against mages. So when they were told to face four mages, they were hesistant. They were paid well and asked to guard a few villagers. That they could easily do. But fighting against mages, they didnt sign up for that.

Seeing no one move Thunder king sighed.

"If you dont move at my count of three, everyone is going to get the shock of your life. " He laughed at his own jokes. Mages were known to have eccentric personalities.

Aaron's group as well as the guards felt helpless. They didnt have many options left.

They took deep breaths. One of the guards broke the stalemate and dashed towards mage's group.

Seeing him rest if the guards followed suite.

The mages group wasnt idol as well. They too prepared a few spell.

Adam created a strong gush of wind to push back the guards to gain more time. Although his personality was a little Arrogant, he was from a 4 star mage academy after all. He did have his talents. He was the first to react to the situation.

The gush struck the guards and a few guards tumbled and broke the momemtum. This gave Elizabeth time to prepare a water canon. It further slowed down the guards. Ron did a heat wave as well. It sent a gust of super hot air. Although the speed was slow and the gust was more like a gentle breeze, it was hot enough to slow down people. No one wanted to rush into hot air when it felt like your skin would burn.

The three of them used basic spells to gain some time and scare the guards a little. They didnt have much strategy and 50 metres wouldnt take the guards too long to traverse. Guards would be much more diffuclt to dealt with if they were close by.

Mean while Aaron didnt do anything. He didnt have any such spells. He could use his telekinesis to fire projectiles, but the speed wasnt fast. He might take someone by surprise if they werent looking, but in frontal confrontation, it wasnt of much help. He was standing quietly by the side watching everything happen.

Thunder king saw it as well. He understood that this was the space mage of the group. He didnt seem to be a member of any mage family as well going by his clothes. If was worked for onez he didnt knew. He also carried a sword. A mage defending himself with a sword? Interesting to see.

The three of them continued to cast spells. They were good within their own rights. They slowly dwindled the numbers of guards to 15. But they were getting tired as well. Continous spell casting was taking a toll on Ron and Elizabeth. They were younger and had lesser magic power as well as experience than Adam.

"Come on, push yourself. They will overhelm us if they reach us." He tried to rally the tiring Ron and Elizabeth.

"Use the mage stones you have spells imprinted upon. They would be given to the guards in case we loose anyway." What he said did make sense after all.

"If the space mage knew any attacking spells things would be simple enough."

"True mages after all have such low rate of power consumption. "

It was true. Elementalists had exponentially higher consumption of magic power than a true mage. The word true wasnt for show alone after all. True mages were much more closer to natural laws, hence their magic power consumption was low. Conjuring fire out of thin air was much more demanding then to move a object through space. The object and the space always existed. Just the position was changed. But fire was created out of nothing.

True mages had their disadvantage as well. They needed much more understanding of the world around them. It was difficult for them to brute force the spell.

Mage stone consumption was the same as well. An elementalist spell used up the stones very fast. The stone which could power space gates for hundred of years would be used up in a couple of years by elementalists if they were used to power similar level of spells.

The mage stones were hence much more in demand by the elementalists.

As Adam was mumbling to himself, Aaron was standing quietly. It wasnt that he didnt know a attacking spell now. Rather he was waiting for the guards to get in range.

He wont be afraid or helpless this time.
