It was a large library, and I immediately felt better. I liked libraries. They were usually silent, and people didn't bother you if you had a panic attack in the corner.

I once again looked around before a sound at the entrance surprised me.

Whipping my head around, I noticed a girl with a white robe entering the large room.

She had multiple braids and her big, doe eyes looked at me with what seemed to be distress. "Why can't you help me?"

Surprised for a split second, I worked my acting skills to their fullest. It wasn't the first time that I had been caught unawares with people knowing who I am... while I had no idea.

"I'm sorry," I made my voice slightly cold, a gut feeling deep within me saying that was the right tone.

The girl looked hurt before she bit her lip and slowly shook her head. "I can't accept that! Help me kill him!"

What the f*ck?

It took all of my willpower to not run away. Although I had had times where people recognized me while I remembered jack sh*t, this was the first time somebody asked me to kill someone.

I didn't like it.

Looking at the girl with an even colder expression, I answered her with a firmer tone, "No." So get the f*ck away, weirdo.

The girl looked at me for a few seconds, her eyes searching for something within my face. Suddenly, it seemed as if she were confused at what she found, because it felt as if she deflated like a balloon.

"You're not him, are you?" The girl looked even more defeated, her shoulders were slumped and even her body screamed, 'No!'

I felt a little bad, but there was no way I was going to kill someone. No. Nope. No way.

"Bring him back," the girl's eyes looked maniacal as she reached towards me with her claws.

Holy sh*t!

I tried to get away from her claws, but my legs no longer moved.

No.

Don't tell me-

Please.

Just let me leave.

The girl walked closer to me, and I felt as if she moved in slow motion. For some reason, that was even more terrifying, like the slow walk of a zombie coming at you, with the knowledge that you broke your leg and couldn't escape.

I don't want to be a zombie.

I urged the transparent screen in front of me to go faster, beads of sweat rolling down my face and falling into the robe that I was wearing.

[10 seconds]

Come on, faster!

The girl was an inch away from me, her hand reaching for the robes that I wore.

Just as she was about to bunch up the fabric to interrogate me, the system sent a 'Ding!', and I regained my ability to move.

Let's just say move I did.

I threw myself back, dodging her hands in the only way I knew how: making a complete fool of myself.

Taking a deep breath, I crab-walked[1] away, my eyes as large as saucers.

Nuh-uh. There ain't no way you're going to get me. Nope.

The girl's expression twisted as she watched me moving further and further away. And then she took four steps to cover the distance between us.

Oh sh*t.

I completely froze and watched as she squatted to be eye-level with me. Her voice was tired as she said, "Who are you?"

Who am I? WHO AM I? I AM YOUR FA-

"Devin."

"What?" She asked politely.

"Ah, yeah, I'm Devin. What about you?"

The girl and Devin stared at each other for a few seconds. The girl's face was filled with confusion, while Devin's face was blank.
