Check Up

I try to shift to the healers but find that I still can't shift. I bite my lip in frustration but before I can take off running, Rune grabs me and shifts us to the healers. "Greetings, Dark Lord." The elder healer says when he sees us. "Where is Fig?" I ask and the old fae gives me a light chuckle before saying "Follow me."

We follow him to another room and I see Fig's little body resting on a large smooth rock. The rock looks like it's slowly pulsing with a warm glow. I rush over to him pushing past the older fae "Fig?" I say gently and I stop myself from scooping him up. Instead I gently touch him and watch as his little eyes slowly open.

"Fig! Oh thank goodness you're okay.. you're okay right?" I ask quickly then turn to look at the older fae asking "He's okay right?" I hear Fig snort and say "Calm down Syn, I'm okay." I turn back to him to see him stretching. "What happened? Why did you pass out? Are you hurt anywhere? Do you need anything? Are you hungry?" I ask shifting from one foot to the other.

"Calm down Syn, I was just really tired that's all. I really couldn't sleep when we were in the pit ya know?" He says scratching his little ear. At the mention of the pit my heart begins to race and my fists tighten to the point it hurts. Fig notices the change and quickly says "I'm completely fine! When are you going to cook all the food you promised? I woke up, see!"

I take a deep breath and give him a small but warm smile "Yes, I see. You did well Fig and as promised I will make you anything your little heart desires!" I say and I do my best to shake out my trembling hands. Fig nods his head and jumps up to my shoulder rubbing his head against my cheek. He had heard me... I smile in delight.

I hold him close and I say a little prayer of thanks for keeping him alive and well. I turn to see Rune watching us with dark eyes. His fist are clenched and I see his jaw muscle moving. He looked angry.. really angry. "Rune?" I hesitantly ask. He turns his back on Fig and I as the room grows cold. The elder fae quickly leaves the room on shaky legs.

He takes a few deep breaths before turning back around "I'm fine.. let's go get Fig something to eat. I should thank him for keeping you safe." He says gently and holds his hand out to me. The temperature returns to normal and the dark look I saw in his eyes was no longer there. I give him and small smile while taking his hand. He was upset about something... What upset him?
