Arrival of the Region Head

The leader's eyes were stretched as big as a rubber ball as a surprising look covered his whole face. He stared at the broken pieces of the fire dragon lying on the ground. He was lost without words.

His chest started aching all of a sudden. He grabbed his chest and fell onto the ground. His face started contorting as if he was in some severe discomfort. Suddenly he started coughing up, and a mouthful of black blood came spurting out from his mouth.

The leader was suffering from the backlash because his elemental technique got destroyed by that old man. The elemental techniques of high level had their massive advantages in a battle, but it had a few disadvantages too, and the backlash was one of them.

Because of the elemental technique being directly connected to the user's chakra point, the user will have to bear the consequences if anything goes wrong with the elemental technique. The higher the level of the elemental technique, the more extreme the pain of the backlash would be.

The leader's elemental technique was utterly destroyed. The technique which he got from his master as a reward for doing the unthinkable, the technique which he was most proud of, was broken into pieces by that old man right in front of him, and he couldn't do anything to stop him.

He couldn't even determine the cause of its eradication. He only saw him using some kind of a needle, which was probably created by the refined spiritual energy, but weren't they say that fire conquers water? So, how could he manage to defeat the fire dragon by only using the most basic elemental technique?

His elemental technique was on a higher level than the old man's spiral needle technique. The spiral needle was the fundamental technique that an elemental apprentice would learn after opening their Chakra point for the first time. How could his superior elemental technique lose to that elementary level technique?

The leader wiped the blood on his face with his torn-up sleeves and slowly turned towards the old man. His internal organs, which were battered after the backlash, started healing itself with the passing moment. He looked to be in agonizing pain, but the curiosity to know about what happened to the fire dragon took over his conscious as he tried to pull himself together.

The leader looked straight into his eyes. He tried to speak, but nothing came out from his throat except a little gush of warm air. He was on the verge of passing out due to the severity of pain. If the old man would use even a little bit of his spiritual energy on him now, he will end up dead in an instant, but he didn't care about that. At this moment, he was only concerned that he would die without knowing what happened to the fire dragon.

The leader gathered all of his remaining energy in his body and tried to speak, but only one word came out from his throat.

"How....?"

His voice was shaky and low, but it had done its work as it traveled to the ears of the old man. The old man had a smile on his face as he looked back at him.

"How...? How...?"

"Hahahahahaha," The old man laughed hysterically.

"If you couldn't understand, then it shows that you are just not good enough. You shouldn't try to use the thing which you don't possess and just die."

"I've told you before that the one who will fall here might be you, yourself. Now should I kill you or…." The old man had a sinister grin on his face as he said to the leader. But before he could finish his sentence, the leader intercepted.

"Please don't kill me. Please don't kill me, sir, I beg you. I won't pursue the matter that happened today. I will not even report you or your granddaughter to the Region Head. Please have mercy."

"I've already lost. I could not do anything to you in this situation, but keep in mind that if I die here, the Region Head will surely investigate this matter." "So, you can just let me go, and this matter will end right here." The survival instinct suddenly woke up inside him as he pleaded while kneeling on the ground.

He didn't want to die here. He was a survivor. He had faced too many hardships and finally became the Leader of Elite Guards. He won't throw his life away. He would do anything to save his life. If need be, he could even beg the old man to show mercy.

In his pleading words, there was a hint of threat lurking inside. He tried to indirectly threaten the old man in the pretense of those pleading words. He indirectly warned him that if he would to die here, then the Region Head will wreak vengeance upon everyone related.

"Mercy…? Tell me, could you have taken mercy on me if I would've been the one to lose in that battle? How could you have the face to plead for mercy in front of me?" The old man's brows moved upwards as he asked the leader angrily.

"Kaitabh, you have done too many vicious things in your life. Now is the time for you to pay for all those sins." The old man said in a loud voice for all those were present to hear.

There wasn't even a bit of fear present in those confident eyes of the old man. He didn't seem afraid that the region head will manage to find him or the young mistress.

No one present here knew about him. He was a mystery for everyone, and about the young mistress; when the reinforcements would come, she will be safe from everything. The background of the young mistress was not to be taken lightly, even for The Great Five Generals. What could a mere Region Head do?

When Kaitabh, the leader of the elite guards unit, heard the loud shout, his face turned ashen. A scary feeling crept in his heart as if he was going to die here. This old man was not an ordinary merchant, which he could easily intimidate like these commoners. He was surely a wolf in sheep's clothing.

It was wiser to send Subahu to call him here. Only the arrival of that man could save his life now, but where is he? He sent Subahu a long time ago, but why wasn't he coming. Was he really destined to die here?

After surviving like a cockroach through all this time, was he finally going to die?

Before making into the league of big shots, he had done too many vicious things. He had decimated his clan for the gains of the Region Head. He had murdered his family members with his own hands. He had violated and killed uncountable women and children in his life. Was he going to pay for all those sins by losing his life?

"You have murdered innumerable innocent people, and you have terrorized this region for quite some time now."

"On behalf of all the people of this north-east region, I sentence you to death." The old man said as he created a frosty stake on his right hand. He pointed it towards the heart of the leader and threw with all the force which he could muster.

It seemed that Kaitabh had no way to save himself from dying. There was not even an ounce of energy left in his body to move his bruised body. He was on his knees as he closed his eyes and waited for the stake to impale his heart, but as if the heavens had something different in store for him, suddenly a gush of intense wind came swirling towards that frosty stake.

Boom…

The gush of wind collided with the frosty stake in the mid-air, and the stake burst apart from the collision. It couldn't endure the pressure exerted by that gush of the wind and broke into multiple pieces. The broken shards finally fell to the ground before they could reach him.

The gush of wind didn't stop at that as it approached the old man in a flash. Before he could realize that something was wrong, it had already hit the old man's left arm, and the blood came spurting out of his left shoulder.

The old man retreated a few steps backward. He didn't understand how the leader managed to do that. Was he a dual element wielder, did he controlled the element of air too?

No, no. That wasn't possible. If he had already controlled the element of air, then he would've used that power in the previous fight. Someone else must've helped him from the shadows.

Suddenly the old man sensed an extremely violent aura covering this whole space as a deep voice emerged out of nowhere.

"Who the heck are you to sentence someone whom I've taken under my wing, to death?"

"Are you not afraid of dying?"

Suddenly the wind started dancing wildly as a whirlwind emerged out of nowhere. After a few moments when the whirlwind became quiet, a silhouette could be seen standing in the middle of the floating air.

It was blurry. Dust and ashes were flying everywhere. The old man only managed to see a dark silhouette inside that chaotic wind. That previous attack of the chaotic wind had left a deep cut on his left shoulder, and a large amount of blood was gushing out from it. He was losing too much of his blood.

He had already exhausted a great part of his spiritual energy by creating not one, but two deeply concentrated spiritual energy attacks, and now, his blood was spurting out from his wound like a cascade. His eyes were getting blurry, but still, these sudden changes of events were keeping him on his toes.

The old man tore a long stripe of cloth from his robe and tied it tightly around his wound. Then he took out a jade bottle from his storage bracelet and emptied it in his mouth. He swallowed it whole in one shot.

After chugging down the whole bottle, a strong gush of spiritual energy started to flow into his body, and his blurred vision started to get clearer.

When the dust settled, the dark silhouette slowly turned into a middle-aged man. The middle-aged man wore a golden yellow robe on his body, which was shining in the blazing sun. The reflecting light made him look majestic.

The elegance which oozed from his existence was making him seem as if he was someone from the royal clan. He glanced down towards the old man and started walking in the air towards him.

"Who are you? Why are you interfering in our fight?" The old man was taken aback by the middle-aged man's previous action. It must be him who saved the leader from dying, but why did he do that? He was confused, so he tried to ask him about it face to face.

The middle-aged man wore an indifferent look on his countenance as he ignored the old man. He turned himself towards the leader and looked straight into his eyes. He got down on the ground from the air and started walking towards him.

After approaching him, he got down on his knees and patted the leader's head in a caring manner.

"I have to kill this vile bastard. Whoever you are, I advise you to step backward and don't interfere." The old man knew that he had to put an end to that leader. As the people used to say in his hometown "A man should always crush the head of a wounded snake; otherwise, who knows when it will appear again seeking revenge."

But he didn't want to add another person in his kill list. He tried to warn the middle-aged person as politely as he could in that given situation.

The leader heaved a sigh of relief when he opened his eyes and found himself alive and kicking. He thought he had breathed for the last time in his life, but miraculously, he was safe and sound.

He looked towards the person who saved him from this precarious situation. When his eyes met the piercing gaze of that middle-aged man, his heart started beating louder.

So he came at last. The leader didn't have much confidence in him coming here, but his eyes were not deceiving him. He really came. It looked like Subahu had done his part. Now no one would be able to save that old man and his granddaughter from suffering a fate much worse than death.

When he saw him kneeling on the ground and patting his head softly, he bowed himself in front of him as a loyal servant and said.

"Region Head, you came."
