Just a Normal Path [C96]

After the training with Aura Azura, Shu Himo fell deep in thought, 'Where should I go now?'

Traversing the portal to go outside the training room, Shu Himo suddenly remembered a place where he needed to reach at least S class to enter, and abruptly began running into random portals, hoping to find it.

Noticing that he started running the three teachers are shocked, again? Yesterday was not enough, what's wrong with you? Do we bother you that much?

Not daring to lose him, they immediately chased after him.

Meanwhile, Shu Himo is still running, trying to find the right location, even forgetting that there are teachers frantically trying to chase after him.

-----

27 portals later.

"I'm finally here!"

Right now, an enormous tower stood in front of Shu Himo, seemingly high enough to reach the sky, as if it was looking down on everyone.

Its base possesses the structure of a white-colored cube, with a metal black gate as the entrance, bearing a frightening atmosphere apparently warning everyone not to enter.

On top of the cube, the structure evolves into a white cylinder that extends toward the sky, with the end yet to be seen.

Smiling, Shu Himo walked to the door and opened it, receiving a warm breeze from inside.

Inside there is only a bench working as a reception, and a stair leading upwards.

At the reception, there is a middle-aged man, seemingly of the human race reading a newspaper. He is sitting on a chair, appearing to be relaxing with his legs posed on the bench. Noticing that a student entered he immediately said, "Only S class students here. If you are, show your student seal, and if you aren't, then fuck off from here."

His speech startled Shu Himo, what is wrong with this guy?

Staring more deeply the middle-aged man, Shu Himo noticed that he can't discern his cultivation realm! Is he also higher than Longevity realm? Why lately people in a higher realm than Longevity realm keep popping up as if they were mushrooms?

Not having another choice, he took out his S rank student seal and showed it at the middle-aged man, waiting for him to continue talking.

Seeing the S rank student seal, the middle-aged man did not show any sign of surprise and simply said, "Welcome to the Tower of Knowledge. Here you will be able to read a single book of a quality depending on how far you can go."

He then lazily pointed toward the stair, "Just climb the stair, you will reach a path that will possess a door once in a while. Each of those doors will bring you to a library, but the farther you go, the better the knowledge in the books of the library… also, if you try to read more than a single book you will die due to some special formations, so just read the tag with the explanation of what consists the book, instead of opening it."

Hearing the last sentence, Shu Himo felt a cold sweat on his back and believed that if he dared to break the rule, he would undoubtedly die.

After signaling to Phylia to wait here, he nodded toward the man and walked toward the stair.

While walking up the stair, he smiled, 'You see system, that's how a receptionist should be, instead of being too kind all the time stopping others from doing what they want.'

[The system is sure that the User is the only one that possesses such a theory about receptionists.]

Ignoring the system, Shu Himo finally reached the start of the path, but seeing it, he was stunned.

Unlike what anyone would expect from the path inside a tower, the path is perfectly straight, with no sign of inclination at all. The path comprehends a single meter tight straight road that has at the sides seemingly endless chasms. The chasms give an unnatural and scary feeling that something unknown may happen, stopping most people from passing through the path.

Suddenly he heard a voice from behind, most likely from the middle-aged man, "If you feel unsure about it just back off."

Hearing him, Shu Himo felt offended, 'How can I give up at this point? Isn't he just underestimating me?'

[Most likely it was just a sign of kindness from him.]

'I refuse to believe that he is another kind receptionist!'

Calming down quickly, Shu Himo immediately knew what this test is about: it's a test about willpower! 'I'm sorry to disappoint you, but my willpower is one of the things I'm more confident in!'

With a smile on his face, Shu Himo nonchalantly started walking on the path. However, while walking in the path Shu Himo felt to be at all the time aimed by bad presages giving him uneasy feelings, is this the strength of the chasms?

Not bothering too much about it he continued walking and after a couple seconds finally saw the first door on the side, but he ignored it and proceeded straight, after all, how could he already give up?

Suddenly, a sound reverberated in the area.

*Brbrbrb*

Following the sound, the temperature in the area abruptly increased, and from the sides, lava started falling inside of the chasms.

Startled for a moment, Shu Himo abruptly noticed that four fireballs are flying toward him from four different directions.

Meanwhile, from the ceiling appeared multiple swinging pendulum blades, obstructing the path to continue, since if he passes at the wrong timing, being split in half will be the only result.

Seeing everything Shu Himo was dumbfounded, 'How is this a test about willpower!?'

[No one ever said it was.]
