"You won't be asked to help us. You are ordered to do so."
The cardinal then grinned adding
"You see, we have summoned an excess of people so we cannot just feed and take care of you for free. This is not your world, and I don't know nor do I care about how you do things there. This world, however, you abide by our rules. As long as you are all still too weak, we can just kill those that are less useful for us and keep the ones that show promise."
Once he said this, the atmosphere turned heavy.
Yuji then spoke.
"Wait, wait old man. There is no need for things to get bloody. This guy doesn't know what he is saying. I am the leader here, and it is I who decides if we should help or not, and I say we will. However, we will need you to show us the props." Said the guy with words that were enough to calm the cardinal and sooth the agitated crowd.
He then approached me and whispered in my ear saying.
"The fuck you are doing loser! Do you want to get us killed? We don't know these people, and they sure don't give a fuck about our lives. You need to shut up and let me handle this."
His words were on point from his perspective I could say. But really this is a shitty situation. We are just normal high school students how the hell are we supposed to fight against a devil king or whatever?
Even more so, my title and stats clearly make me look like the secondary character that gets killed early on…this is really not comforting at all…fuck.
"So sir cardinal. We have to level up and get stronger like a game? Is that right?"
"Game?" said the cardinal "If you consider risking your life and fighting against monsters and beasts to be a game then I am not sure to either call you dumb or brave. However, it is exactly so. This was our world since we knew of it. And it shall be so until time ends." Said the cardinal dismissively.
"Due to the numbers, your lodgings will take time to be made so please follow this man. He will show you what to do."
Said the cardinal then he left exiting through a door at the back of the room.
The man in question looked to be about forty years old, he had a scar on his left cheek and looked to be a veteran of war.
His eyes were focused, yet at the same time, none-caring. He had short-cut hair, with patches of white and a well-trimmed beard.
He had a broadsword behind him that looked to need inhuman strength to wield, as it was too damn big.
"I will be the one responsible for your training my name is Jarve, you will address me as Captain Jarve. and I am here to help you with your training I will have two more assistants as your numbers are a bit too much for me alone," said the man in a commanding tone.
"Like you all now know that was your status screen that you had just seen. You can summon it anytime you want, it tells you your progress and level. But do not rely on those numbers. It is good to gauge your strength, but that is its sole use. You can still be killed by a lucky hit to the jugular by a level 1 even if you're a level 100. That is if you don't have the necessary resistances and this, we will be speaking about later on. Now please follow me," he said, turning around and leaving the hall.
This seems a bit stupid…I think I can escape this place if I want to. However, there is a problem…what if I end up inside some unknown place which by the way is everywhere! and get killed by a stray monster or beast…damn if I truly want to get away from these guys I will first need to get a bit stronger. Just like the guys from those novels…I know I may be a secondary character in someone else's tale. But I will be damn sure to become the main character in my own story.
I followed the horde of people through a corridor and down some big stairs.
We left the place we were at which looked to be some sort of giant church with statues of many- probably- gods and deities carved into stone.
I was never a believer, to begin with, but I never had problems with people who do. If they think there is an afterlife after that then good for them. At least they hope that there is something beyond this hell hole of a wretched world they are living in.
We left the church into a clearing with several other armored soldiers.
The captain who goes by the name Jarve… then said.
"We know that you come from the world where there is no such thing as magic. But here. It is in abundance. You can use your mana to do various tasks depending on the skills you could acquire or your affinity toward a certain type of magic. Before we get into that, I want you to show me your status screen so that I could organize you into a party of vanguards, backline, mages, and swordsmen or even spell-swordsmen."
"And how are we supposed to do that?" said Yuji who seemed a bit thrilled by what the captain just said.
"It is similar to what you did to see your screen only this time you say show status screen, and you will understand. Here is an example. Show status screen!"
Once the captain did this his status screen showed up in front of him...
Name Jarve Rionheart Primary Class Grand Knight
Race Human Gender Male
Health 1200 Mana 675
Level 88
Strength 650 Agility 425
Wisdom 250 Intelligence 200

Title Protector of the kingdom – Sword master-The unbroken-The lone heart
Wow! His stats are over the roof…
I was surprised, and so was everyone around me.
"There is another window that is more specialized than this, it will be unlocked at level 20. This one has your resistances, willpower, fortitude and many other elements that are supposed to precisely gauge out your strengths and weaknesses. This one I will not show you and I will advise you to not show it to anyone. You don't want anyone to know where you are weak or strong, less they would take advantage of those elements and eliminate you."
The man was right…I would not want anyone to know where I am weak or strong so I might as well take his advice seriously.
Everyone then began showing their friend what their states were like and surprisingly Haru was hyped about his.
"What is this? My stats look very balanced from the get-go what is the reason for that?"
Balanced stats? He must have states like mine.
"Show me." said the captain
"Show status screen!" replied Yuji

Title Hero
And this was what it had shown…
Seriously what the hell? Why is it so different from mine? Considering he is just a level 1 this was really overpowered.
"Interesting. Normally the status window will show your power and attribute depending on your current self. You summoned ones are really strange, always being favored…my states were not even as close as your when I first began here…what a lucky brat, however, don't get too confident as stats are nothing if you get a spear through the head" laughed the captain
It seems that the stats are varying depending on a person's background, but why such a disparity in stats?
"One more thing… your luck stat is almost perfect, this will help you a lot in finding treasures and dropping rare items but will probably not be relevant in a fight. It might give you a better chance to land a critical hit, but that is it. I also think that your stats are modified thanks to your title. Click on it, and you will see its description and how it is related to your current self."
Title: Hero
Being a hero and hope for the people the gods have blessed you with a great start to ease your way through this treacherous world.
Is what the title said when Yuji clicked on it.
Hmmm, a hero he is…I wonder what mine says.
Title: The Loser
Your very existence is insignificant to many, even the gods were not compassionate enough to give you a second look. You will start with the most basic form and stats that a normal human will have and will suffer through your journey as the loser you are.
What the hell? The system is trolling me!
Everyone started chatting about their stats. While I waited things out.
Haru came over and showed me his status screen.
Name Haru Miyamoto Primary Class N/A
Race Human Gender Male
Health 100 Mana 100
Level 1
Strength 20 Agility 5
Wisdom 7 Intelligence 15
Stamina 100 Vitality 30
Luck 20 - -
Title Fatty
Not much of a difference, at least his luck is much higher, and he even has more vitality and strength than I do
Ah, this is so depressing…
I then looked at his title.
Title: Fatty
A repulsive and disgusting human is the one that holds this title. However, the god of gluttony Jian had blessed this one with a modest vitality.
I give up.
"Now that you all had finished looking at your status I will begin with basic sword training that you all will have to go through. No matter if you have an aptitude towards magic or sword you will at least need to know how to hold a weapon. It might save your lives someday…" said the captain and then proceeded in carrying a stick from a pile of them that was close to where he stood.
"Each one will grab a stick, and we will go through the basics. Ready up!"
