Well I should inscribe some gems while I'm walking, I check my inventory and notice that I have quite an amount of gems, I got 16 emeralds, 11 rubies, 15 sapphires and 5 diamonds. Now as I explained earlier every gem has a fitting element for it so in this case sapphires are for water or ice, rubies are for fire, emeralds are for nature or life spells and diamonds are for everything. I took out one emerald because I have most of them and it would be least damaging if I fail my rune carving.
I try to feel the gem as I took out silver feather from inventory and imbued it with mana, but as soon as I started engraving I noticed a problem. Gems are far too fragile compared to regular stones, the problem with carving is I have to carve the rune in limited time or else it won't form, but If I rush it my carved lines might crumble and whole gem will go to waste, worst comes to worst and it might explode in my face, although it's nothing life threatening it sure wouldn't feel good.
That's one emerald less I guess, for simplest runes I'm trying to carve I have about 10 seconds to finish them before they fail to connect, if I tried using elemental energy instead of mana for carving I might get more time to finish carving but currently I have no elemental energy, well except for soul power if I could even consider that elemental energy. Hey, that gives me an idea, I could try carving some soul spells on diamonds later, the problem is beside my own spells I have in spellbook I don't know any other soul spell, but for every problem there's a solution, although this solution is somewhat risky it's worth a try, I could just make up some soul spells, some may even exist without me knowing it so I my get lucky or I may even create a completely new spell, if that spell is strong enough I might even get world notification reward.
Let's see, I still have 10 mana but my rune carving currently costs 1 mana per rune so as long as I don't rush too much I won't have any mana issues while carving.
My second gem is success which surprised me; I honestly didn't expect that I thought I would fail at least ten pieces before succeeding. Because I was engraving emerald I picked a healing spell because I don't have any healing spell on my own, spell's name is Nature's touch and it's a basic druid spell for healing, it heals instantly 25HP and another 10HP over the next 10 seconds, of course druids can empower that spell with their own stats while I can only use most basic version of it, that's the downside of gems, but other than that they are totally awesome, I mean imagine yourself standing there before your opponent while he takes out bunch of gems and hurls avalanche of different spells from different classes at you, it would be quite shocking right?
Okay since I succeeded in carving a nature spell I could try carving other elements, I'll try ruby gem but I'm still in doubt of which spell to pick for this, you should know that there are probably most of fire spells in this world, just a fire mage has over hundred fire spells, not to mention other classes, some spells do overlap between classes but it's not that often, and even if I do downsize everything to just basic fire spells there is still too much of them to pick, but there is one thing that makes it easier for me, I ONLY KNOW COUPLE FIRE RUNES. Freaking Gabriel taught me over 3000 runes and least number of them are fire runes, I don't know why but he gives kind of vibe of disdaining fire element, I don't know honestly why because fire element is really popular with rest of the world, but all of my friends are weirdoes so it doesn't surprise me that much actually.
Oh I actually have a good idea, it's not actually a fire element spell but it's a basic spell with a fire rune required. It's a basic mage spell called Mana Burn, as you could guess if you played any other game that spell harms your enemies mana pool, if they have one and deal's damage to them according to the amount of mana you managed to destroy, but there's a slight problem with this spell, I know which type of runes it uses but I don't know which exactly runes are used so I'll have to improvise.
And the end result ended with me having charred face because damn ruby decided to crack for no apparent reason. I almost lost my eyebrows! Damn it, it stings…
Of course one gem explosion won't stop me from continuing so my second try ended up…. In a success, but of course it didn't end up how I hoped it would end but it was a success none the less.
[You have created new spell, do you wish to name it?]
"Show me spell details first."
[Condenses fire element around the targets mana core and burns it continuously over 5 seconds. Damage dealt is equal to half of mana target lost.]
"Name spell Mana Burning."
Of course I don't get any reward for this because this is just a variation of an already existing spell so it's not considered original enough. And for the last I have sapphire, I decided already which spell I'll use for this gem, it's a basic shaman spell called Mana Tide and the spell effect is that it sucks out part of my mana before returning me double amount, it's quite an useful spell if you have mana issues often, which I might have considering the maelstrom of shit I'm heading into right now…
