Chapter 13: Bloodlines

Wang Zhu closed the dusty book, rubbing his tired eyes.

"Urgh. Note to self, reading makes sleepy time want faster." Rubbing his face he blurted out a nonsensical sentence which made the girl sitting opposite him on the table giggled.

He stared at her with wide eyes! This girl was incredibly beautiful, she had light blue hair which draped gently down her shoulders a pretty face with soft lips and a cute little nose!

She must have been about sixteen, "Why would such a girl come here?" Wang Zhu said in his heart. He could tell that this girl was at least at the late stages of body refining realm, or at the essence gathering realm! This was because he couldn't feel a flicker of her cultivation, meaning that she had quite a high cultivation!

"The Dead Language Index? Fascinating, I take it you want to have an advantage when exploring antiquity sights?" Her voice could only be described as angelic to Wang Zhu's ears, causing a cheesy grin to pop up on his face.

This made the girl only shake her head, she knew the effects she had on men better than most, "How rude of me, I didn't introduce myself. My name is Tie Mao, as in Iron Feather."

The girl's words were like a bucket of cold water over Wang Zhu's head.

"You're... you're related to those three thugs?" Wang Zhu took a deep gulp cursing himself for talking to her.

"Three thugs? You mean Tie Xiao, Ren, and Ku?" Tie Mao's face went from resplendent and angelic to a frown that could turn the world upside down.

"I've told them a thousand times that cultivators will never accomplish anything if they act like a pact of roaming marauders!"

Bang!

The table collapsed as she banged her iron like first on it!

"Good day little one. I'll remember you." She stormed off trying to keep her composure.

After a while of awkwardly sitting at the broken table and the other students in the library giving him dagger eyes Librarian Zing finally returned.

"Ahh little Zhu, you're here. Excellent. Follow me I have a surprise for you."

Librarian Zing picked up the staff next to his chair and went into a small room filled with old scrolls that were his office.

They both sat down in seats that were old and dusty, yet held a certain elegance to them as they had a coiling serpent on the arms of each.

"This is for you. I had Hammer Hand Gao make it especially for you." Librarian Zing handed over the staff which was seven and a half foot long and weighed thirty kg.

As Wang Zhu tried to take it he almost fell over from the weight, making him grimace. This thing was almost half his body weight.

"Try channeling your Qi." Librarian Zing smiled.

Wang Zhu nodded as he let the Qi flow.

Much to his surprise when he did this he was easily able to lift up the staff, even with one hand! A light layer of frost also started to gradually form over the surface of the staff.

"The Ice Prince's formula is formidable indeed." Librarian Zing mumbled to himself, as he gazed at the sight of a young boy easily lifting the staff.

Wang Zhu was ecstatic and unable to contain his excitement, he twirled the staff around like a windmill. Looking childish yet fun loving at the same time.

"Now was there a reason you came to the Library today or did you just come to extort this old man?" Librarian Zing chuckled.

"Yes, Senior." Wang Zhu quickly bowed, realizing he was acting like a child.

"I wanted to ask, how would one strengthen their bloodline?"

"Strengthening a bloodline? Humm, that's an odd question. Alas, for people who are so blessed to have one there are several different ways. First of all, it to meditate for long times, causing their bloodline to spread and thicken. This can take years though, and is only done by people wanting to break through bottlenecks and the poor."

"The second method would be to naturally absorb bloodline power. They can do this through strong herbs, or the flesh of beasts. Although it will depend on what type of herb. For example, if someone with a wind bloodline ate an earth herb it could damage their bloodline instead of improving it."

"The final method is an ancestral altar. Ancestral altars are exceedingly rare, and in the Sacred Beast Continent, there are only a few. They allow you to absorb power from the root of your bloodline, establishing a connection to your ancestor and absorbing their power. This is how many beast races inherit their bloodline power. But alas, even if you managed to find one, you'd need to find an altar with the same bloodline as you." Librarian Zing explained carefully.

"Wait, what are bloodline powers?" Wang Zhu was confused.

"Bloodline powers? Oh, they're the latent abilities that come with a bloodline. A bloodline will naturally awaken these abilities as it improves. They usually show up around rank three, but the more powerful the heavens are the more they try to suppress us."

"That's why grand races such as dragons and qilins usually inherit their abilities when they reach rank five, otherwise with their strength, they'd naturally be limitless. That's why Ancestral Alters exist so that the heavens can be cheated."
