A Long Odyssey (6)

"This would be a dangerous mission, are you sure that Kavira can do this? She's only been training for eight months." The General knew that Clain and Linx would be able to take care of themselves but Kavira was still fresh to all of this. If they weren't careful, even worse things than a staff showing carved symbols can happen.

"I will spend these next few days assessing her training. Either way Linx and I will be there, if it's completely necessary she also has her powers." The General nodded, he wasn't one to stop the girl from doing what she must do but he was worried for her. Linx hadn't talked to them about going on this mission, he would have agreed to go but he wasn't informed and was just dragged into it.

"Very well, I'll speak to Master Fei in this matter and receive his approval for the mission. So it'll be just the three of you?" And if as though the devil rang in, the door to the study flew open. Nyla standing on the other side of the door frame, "I will be coming along as well."

The General didn't appreciate Nyla's little stunt but he accepted her, she would be able to help guard Kavira and keep her company as a female. "Alright, Clain, begin your assessment. Give me a day by day report and in five days you all will have everything ready by the end of then you will leave."

They were dismissed. One by one they walked out of the study, Linx was the first to speak. "I will head on home and ready the sandpit." His father was known for making huge elaborate parties so he had sealed the sandpit to ready for Linx's birthday which was four days from now.

No one objected and he looked at Kavira to receive a few words but she was busy placing her staff back into her harness. By the time she was back into focus Linx was out of the Generals house heading home. "I have a few things I need to collect before riding off with you all. I'll be back tonight." Nyla left through the back door, disappearing in broad day light.

Clain and Kavira were left alone. "Is that the armor you've chosen to use as a warrior?" Kavira nodded, Clain had been gone for so long that he didn't know her speed much less how close she was to becoming a true warrior.

"The leather armor might not protect me much but it helps me be on the offensive better. Let me go grab my weapons of choice and I'll be right back." Kavira went up to her room to grab her weapon sack, the dao broadswords, the daggers, the bow and arrow, and her staff. She was excited, she had been training for months on becoming a master on each of these weapons now she can finally show Clain that she would be able to defend herself without the use of magic.

They walked onto the sandpit, early afternoon and the sun was beaming bright. The weather was changing and the heat was rising, Kavira's armor was perfect for this weather. Clain tested her, starting with some drills, followed by some sparring and ending it with defense techniques. "Not bad. Your training with Linx is definitely paying off. Tomorrow we will focus on real sword combat, make sure that you're all warmed up before you step into the sandpit."

Clain wasn't joking, he is willing to be there for her to protect her but what she needed most was to learn to be a warrior all on her own.

The following day came, Kavira was all stretched out with both of her dao broadswords neatly placed on her back harness. She stepped onto the sandpit where Clain was already waiting, his expression changed he gripped his sword tightly as he charged in to attack her. Kavira reached back for her swords defending and attacking everything Clain threw at her. All of his movements were readable to her so she moved swiftly. A whole day of training passed by, the sun went down and the stars were bright by the time Clain called the training off. Today's lesson was one of stamina, where Clain was sweating incredible amounts of body fluid while Kavira was barely broke a sweat.

The following day they practiced her bow and arrow along with the daggers. So far Clain couldn't find any reason as to why she would need to be guarded other than she wasn't a true warrior but he wasn't willing to let that hold them back from finding the Dragon Elder.
