Series of Unfortunate Events (10)

The man in the black cloak remained quite throughout the entire trip, it was about two days before they reached the place. They were in a dead zone, something very similar to the out rim in the Lost Realm. Seeing this place once again gave Leena the chills.

They spent about a day walked in this ashy dessert before her and the cloaked man stopped in front of a golden door. Something like a golden version of the dragons door except there went dragons in front, it was a family crest.

The doors were slightly pushed open by the man letting Leena stroll on in. Compared to the dragon's cave this felt much more warm with the light and the furniture. "Welcome." Leena calm expression was unchanged but she was startled.

She glanced up to the lightly golden stairs where the voice came from to see a built tall middle aged man, he had short white hair and white/gray eyes. He was definitely a looker, a man that demanded attention wherever he went. "I have been expecting you for a very long time."

Leena didn't move a muscle on his face but she was obviously confused. She didn't know this man, but his features...

"I am Jax Guerrero. Father of Kizuato, Zury and Petina." Leena's calm expression disappeared and it was replaced by narrow hawk eyes. Jax started walking down the stairs towards her.

"How? You're supposed to be dead."

"I am supposed to be dead. Do you want to know why I'm not?" Jax smirked at Leena, such a creepy yet sexy smile that made her skin crawl. Leena didn't move from where she was standing, he obviously didn't have good intention.

Dracon had spent the last few hours burning the invisible cage, he couldn't wait around for Little Kizuato. He needed to get back to the rest of the group.

After Dracon found the King's study in the other dimension he made his way out of it and looked around the room for any helpful documents. Petition for war, petition for bigger farms, petition for an open trading market, petition for humans to join magical temples, so on and so forth.

From what Dracon saw earlier, his father was still a youngin' which meant that whatever was happening now was in these documents. He never really understood the history of what happened other than what was whispered from world of mouth here and there. Dracon continued to search until he came across an old parchment, he rolled it open 'A Binding Contract of Misfortune'. What?

This couldn't be real... These kinds of contracts were only made out of desperation. King Max was known as a noble man, and honest man. What was he doing with a contract of misfortune...

Dracon dug through his memories but nothing any one ever said made sense. What could have happened that was so bad he needed to craft one of these.

A Contract of Misfortune was crafted by the magic wielder who was desperate for something in their life to change. It basically states that you will receive what you want but in return you and your family will suffer. Most people didn't know about them because it was dark magic, forbidden to be used.

The funny thing is that most dark magic users can remain unnoticed if they don't physically show people what they're doing when using dark magic.

Dracon took the piece of parchment and slipped it into his personal pouch before moving out the door and down the hall where he tumbled across Little Kizuato. "You again? I thought I locked you away."

Dracon didn't have time for this, he ran in the direction Kizuato was coming from. Little Kizuato was blasting mist clouds from every direction but Dracon kept dodging them. He became fed up and eventually broke the window at the fall side of the corridor and flew out. He didn't have his Fiend magic and as a Grocan he couldn't do anything without burning his entire body.

He continued to run once he hit the ground until he reached the castle walls and disappeared from Little Kizuato's sight.
