Mu village.
My explanations about Oil were a surprise to both my parents and grandfather.
After showing them how a small amount of oil is not dangerous and you can extinguish the fire relatively easily, they were rather happy thinking we won't need to destroy the trees for firewood since we have a better alternative.
You need to know the village doesn't have a light source in the night for their house but used the bonfire as a source of light in the night.
1st of all when the wood burns it burns very fast and produces a lot of fire that is dangerous for anyone who wants to light up their house at night.
Second, using wood can burn down the house if there is a slight accident.
Although we can use candles at night just like how the people in the city use but that is very expensive and the luxury is not worth it for the people of our little village.
"Alright let's call everyone to explain how to use the dark water to create a light source to everyone. " proposed grandfather with a happy face.
"Grandfather I am not done with my explanation yet. " quickly stopping grandfather called out.
"Do you want to tell me where are some dangers using the Dark water inside our house? " asks Grandfather in confusion.
"Yeah, it's more dangerous than even the fire from the wood unless you are careful. " I said in agreement.
"Didn't you just show us how to turn off the fire using the water easily? " asks grandfather in confusion.
"Yea but there are still some dangers and we need to create an oil lamp which can create the same or more light than a candle. " I explained quickly before something unexpected happen.
"Oil Lamp? What is that and how do we create one? " asks grandfather in confusion since this is the first time he has heard the noun oil lamp.
"It will be easier to show rather than explaining and I will create one tomorrow for us to use. " I said with a sigh before the fatigue quickly returned to my body as I remembered how tired I was.
"Alright son you don't need to explain anymore just go to sleep quickly since I can see how tired you are. " my mom said with a nod noticing the fatigue in my eyes.
"Alright, see you in the morning. " I said with a nod before I walk to my home to sleep.
------------------------
The next morning my deep sleep was broken from the noise coming from the southern side of the village where our new village members are building their house from the very early morning and washing my face and mouth I quickly ate the rice mom left me in the morning before she left for the farm work.
Unlike always when I would rush to the farm after breakfast to help my parents today I went to such the perfect clay that can be used to create an oil lamp.
After looking around the village I remembered the best clay will be the clay I have dug from deep underground while digging the well and quickly ran to the outside of the village and collecting a few buckets full of clay I quickly made my way back to the village square from where I collect enough water that I would be use to soak the hard clay to make it soft before shaping it to a lamp.
"What are you playing with mud for like a kid, instead of working on the Farm. " while mixing the water into the clay I confused tone came from the side and raising my head I discovered Grandma Sumei looking at me in confusion.
"I am not playing but softening the clay grandma Sumei. " I explained shaking my head.
"And why are you softening it for, if I may ask," says Grandma Sumei with a smile and I am sure she thinks I am just trying to bullshit.
"I am trying to create an oil lamp. " I said with a serious face.
"Oil lamp what is that? Why did I never hear of it before?
Sure enough, you are trying to bullshit again. " with a confident smile she looks at me as if she has caught a thief.
"It's not bullshit and if you don't believe me then I have no way to prove anything to you until I am done with it. " I said with a helpless smile remembering only my parents and grandfather know about oil beside me, so it's not good to explain about it again and again, or I am just too lazy to explain it to everyone.
"Fine then I will wait for you to finish playing with the mud and once we discover your lie as a punishment you will have to learn medicine from me both in the morning and afternoon.
Do I make myself clear? " with a confident smile she said knowing how much I dislike to learn about medicine since it is really hard for me after all the hard work I do throughout the day.
Even if I am interested in learning medical knowledge since it can help me a lot in this cruel World, however, when I am done with a long day of hard work it would always make me too tired to focus on medicine but now I need to focus on creating an oil lamp so without further argument I agree with her "Sure. "
"Ok you promised to obey, so remember it kid but even if you disagree I will force you them. " said Grandma Sumei with a smile as she didn't argue with me anymore so I can concentrate on what I was doing.
With no more interference from her, it didn't take me much longer to shape a few fist-size spherical mud balls into a lamp button which looks like a mud bowl, and when I was done creating a dozen or so of them I started creating its cover which will have a chimney-like pipe on its top which I will use to put the jute rope through and soak into the oil.
Once it's done we can light up the top of the Jute tope which will burn and so on.
"Are you done playing already. " when I put the lamp to dry under the sun before washing my hand asks Grandma Sumei with a smile.
"Yes I am almost done, we just need it to dry before burning in the fire. " I said with the agreement as if look at my work although it's not perfect but it can be called acceptable for now.
"So what do you wish to do while it dry? " she asks me with a curious face.
"How about you teach me more about medicinal plants? " knowing it will take a long time and how eager she is I asked with a smile.
"Now you are talking. "
