Chapter 10:

We sighed and wished he would start teaching soon instead of rambling on useless stuff.

School was over as night fell and all of us dispersed. We were informed that we would be starting our examinations in two weeks time and that we should start preparing for them soon.

All the students literally sighed on the spot and the teacher could only say that it's a test of how much we've learnt. We shrugged and tried to convince ourselves that this is a part of student's life.

As usual, Jason waited for me outside the classroom. I walked over to him and told him I was ready to go home. I became stressed out over the upcoming examinations that I was quiet as mouse on the way home. He figured something was wrong and tried asking about it.

"Hey! How's classes today? Why that face? School's over ain't it?"

"Yea... It's over... But I feel really depressed and stressed out by the upcoming examinations. Classes was okay I guess..."

Jason nodded his head and let out a soft hmm, indicating that he knows what's going on. He then proceeded to keep silent with Jaselle, not intending to stress her out even more by talking to her. We continued on to walk towards our home. On the way, no one made a sound and made the surroundings seem even quieter than before. The night was serene and the only sound that could be heard were crickets and the light breathing of Jaselle and Jason.

They strolled along the pathway and decided to drop by a restaurant for dinner before heading home. They entered the dining hall and placed their orders. The whole process was by far the most quiet one. Each not making any sound. They ate in silence as they thought about many things running throughout their minds. After finishing, they continued on their journey home.

"We're here Jaselle." Jason said. He looked at her and suddenly pulled her in for a hug. Being surprised, Jaselle widened her eyes for a good while and leaned on his shoulder afterwards. She suddenly felt her eyes fog as her vision started to blur. Tears welled up and fell as if they were beads of pearls.

*Crying sounds*

"Hey hey... Why are you crying? Everything okay?"

"No... I'm really stressed out by the huge amount of things I've to study. I need to get all As.. If not, I think I've let myself down..."

Jaselle continued on about her need to get all As since she has kept a record of very prestigious results. It seems to stress her out even more now that it's the final year. Jason patted her while he said comforting words that sounded like gentle whispers. Jaselle immediately felt at ease by his comforts. She stopped crying and released herself from their hug.

"Thank you for today Jason, you've been a great help! I think I've never said this, but I want you to know, I'm really grateful that I have someone like you as a friend." With that, Jaselle ran into her house, leaving Jason to digest the information she just sent him. It came to him like a shockwave, not sure how to react to the sudden confession.

But deep down, he felt immensely warmed and cheered up. It brought a smile upon his face. He walked home with a wide grin, determined and motivated to study harder and to comfort Jaselle at times when she is down.
